For this project, you will be making all of the cabochon embroidered pieces separately and then sewing them together.
- Using E6000, glue the raven cabochon onto Lacy's Stiff Stuff. For instruction, please watch our video: How to Glue a Cabochon onto Lacy's Stiff Stuff for Bead Embroidery. Cut around the cabochon so that you have a workable surface all around. Snip off the corners to avoid your thread getting caught.
- Cut off about 6 feet of dark blue thread, then embroider two beads at a time, alternating between the 11/0 Permanent Finished Galvanized Saffron bead and the 11/0 Galvanized Starlight bead. Please watch the video: How to Backstitch in Bead Embroidery.
- Create a second back stitched row, but alternate between the 11/0 Transparent Frosted Cobalt bead and the 11/0 Galvanized Starlight bead. Note: You may end with two of the same color next to each other. This is fine. Tie in your thread.
- Next, cut around your beadwork and attach an ultra-suede backing. You can see how to do this in the video:How to Trim the Foundation and Attach the Backing.
- Cut off about 4 feet of dark blue thread, then use the 11/0 Transparent Frosted Cobalt beads to make a bead embroidered basic edge as shown in the video:How to Bead Embroider a Basic Beaded Edge. Tie in your thread, and set aside this completed cabochon.
- Take one round turquoise cabochon, and repeat step one.
- Cut off about 6 feet of dark blue thread, then create a backstitch row of orange beads around the turquoise cabochon. Next to the orange beads, create a second backstitch row of one 11/0 Galvanized Starlight bead, one 11/0 Transparent Frosted Cobalt bead, and one 11/0 Higher Metallic June Bug bead. Alternate between these three colors until you complete your row.
- You will now need to create abezel row. Start a new thread and use 15/0 Opaque Pine Green beads to go completely around your turquoise cabochon.
- Repeat steps 4 and 5 to trim the foundation, attach the ultra suede, and make the beaded edge.
- Create a second one of these embroidered turquoise cabochons - repeating steps 6 - 9.
- Take one blue oval cabochon, and repeat step one.
- Repeat step 2 but alternate between the 11/0 Permanent Finished Galvanized Saffron bead and 11/0 Higher Metallic June Bug bead
- Repeat step 3, but alternate between the 11/0 Transparent Frosted Cobalt bead and the 11/0 Galvanized Starlight bead.
- Create a bezel row of 15/0 Silver Lined Ruby beads.
- Repeat steps 4 and 5.
- Create a second one of these embroidered blue oval cabochons - repeating steps 11 - 15.
- Take one oval amber cabochon, and repeat step one.
- Repeat step 2, but alternate between the 11/0 Transparent Frosted Cobalt and 11/0 Higher Metallic June Bug beads.
- Repeat step 3, but alternate between the 11/0 Galvanized Starlight bead and 11/0 Permanent Finished Galvanized Saffron beads.
- Create a bezel row of 15/0 Opaque Pine Green beads.
- Repeat steps 4 and 5.
- Create a second one of these embroidered amber oval cabochons - repeating steps 17 - 21
- Once you have completed all of your cabochons, lay them out how you would like it in the final piece. You can refer to the photo for placement of your piece, or you can create your own design. It is important to lay them out in front of you before you begin the next step.
- Flip all of the completed cabochons over. Refer to the photo to connect the cabochons together. Stitch on two closed 5mm gold jump rings on each cabochon, except the cabochons on the very end. Do this by taking your needle and tying a knot at the end of your needle, going from the backside of your finished piece to the front. For reference, please watch this video. Here, you will attach the larger gold jump rings. You will then attach one open jump ring to each, excluding the raven- here you will attach two open jump rings on each side.
- After all of your pieces are connected, you will need to attach a length of Antique Gold ribbon onto each large jump ring. I cut two 14 inch pieces. Note: You can make this ribbon longer or shorter- it all depends on what size you'd like and how adjustable you want to make it.
- Tie on one side of the ribbon as demonstrated in this video: How to Attach a Ribbon to a Jump Ring. For security, place a dab of E6000 inside the knot.
- Repeat the previous step for the other side of your necklace.
- When you are read to wear it, tie the ribbon into a secure bow at your chosen length.
- You are all done!
