Note: Components and tools listed within this INSTRUCTIONS box and the printer-friendly PDF, if available, may have been discontinued since
this project was published. Refer to the PURCHASE COMPONENTS and TOOLS AND OTHER SUPPLIES sections for current availability.
In addition to the materials listed, you will also need some paper towels, clear packing tape, a lighter or small torch, a face mask and some disposable gloves to complete this project.
- To begin, please watch our video on how to use Vintaj patinas and glaze. Pour out a little bit of the green opal patina onto your work surface. Using a dry paintbrush, dab the patina onto 1 brass leaf stamping and quickly blot away the excess with a paper towel. Wait a few minutes for the patina to dry.
- Next, please watch our video on how to fill an open-back bezel with resin. Following the instructions in the video, cut a piece of clear packing tape and place it onto your work surface, sticky side up. Place your large gold open frame hoop onto the tape and press down hard all around the edges of the frame so it sticks in place and no resin will seep out. Then place the small open frame hoop onto the tape inside the larger hoop, about 1/4 inch from the top.
- Take the leaf stamping without patina and place it onto the tape inside the hoop bezel. Place the leaf stamping with patina on top of it, diagonally. See the photo for reference.
- Next, watch our video on how to use Ice Resin. Put on your disposable gloves and face mask. Based on the instructions in the video, measure your resin and stir with a popsicle stick until all striations are gone. When it is fully mixed, use the stick to drip the resin into the large hoop frame a few drops at a time, until the resin covers the leaf stampings and reaches the top of the hoop frame. You can use the popsicle stick to push the resin into the narrow passage between the small hoop and the top of the pendant. Remove any air bubbles with a heat source such as a small torch.
- Allow the resin to cure in a dust-free area for three days. When the piece has cured, gently peel the packing tape off the back of the pendant.
- Take your 2 foot length of chain and hold the ends together so you find the midpoint. Feed the center of the chain through the small hoop of the pendant from front to back and pull the ends of the chain through the loop, creating a lark's head knot.
- Using pliers, open a jump ring. Slide it through the last link of chain on one side of the necklace. Close the jump ring.
- Open another jump ring. Slide it through the last link of chain on the other side of the necklace, and also slide on the loop of your clasp. Close the jump ring.
- Enjoy your necklace!
If the back of the piece where the tape was stuck feels slightly sticky, you can use Goo Gone to rub the stickiness away.
