Retired - Crystal Point Earrings

1. Cut a 3 inch length of 16 gauge gold wire. Straighten the wire with nylon jaw pliers if necessary, and use a wire rounder tool to smooth any burrs on the ends of the wire.
2. Mold the wire into a rounded shape, using the 3/4 inch wooden dapping form as a circular mandrel (if you don't have a wooden mandrel, you can use another stiff round object, such as the cap of a lotion bottle). Take the wire off the form; it should be in an open teardrop shape.
3. Place the wire teardrop onto your steel bench block.Holding it carefully with the tips of your fingers, use a chasing hammer to hammer only the last 1/2 inch of both ends of the wire, to flatten and texturize them. Hammer the wire flatter and flatter closer to the ends, until the flattened tips of the wire are at least 2mm wide.
4. Use a flat metal file to file the tips of the wire, so they are smooth and rounded.
5. Take your two-hole metal punch tool and place one of the flattened wire tips into the 1.5mm slot. Center the wire so the pin will make a neat hole in the middle of the flattened tip. Then twist the handle to punch the hole.
6. Repeat step 5 with the other wire tip. Then set this wire piece aside.
7. Cut a 15 inch length of 26 gauge gold wire.
8. String one crystal quartz pendant onto the wire, with a 5 inch tail on one end. Watch our video on how to wire wrap a briolette, and following the instructions in the video, create a wire loop with the shorter tail. Use the longer wire tail to wrap the crystal point 1/3 of the way down.
9. Open a 4mm jump ring. Slide it through one of the punched holes at the top of the wire piece, and also slide on a second 4mm jump ring. Close the jump ring.
10. Open another 4mm jump ring and attach it to the second jump ring from the previous step, so you have a chain of three jump rings. Close the jump ring.
11. Repeat steps 9-10 for the other side of the wire piece.
12. Open a 6mm jump ring. Slide it through the last jump ring on one side, then slide on the wire loop of the crystal point pendant, and then slide on the last jump ring on the other side. Close the jump ring.
13. Open the loop of an earring hook. Slide it onto the 6mm jump ring from the previous step. Close the loop.
14. Enjoy your earrings!
