These instructions will make a 19 inch necklace. For a longer or shorter necklace, adjust the number of pewter beads strung.
- Begin by watching our video on how to do pearl knotting using tweezers.
- Following what you learned in the video, unwrap your Griffin silk from the card and find the end of the cord without the attached needle. Make an overhand knot, and double-knot it so it will stay securely in the clamshell knot cover.
- As shown in the video, slide the hole of one antiqued silver clamshell knot cover onto the needle tip of your thread and slide it down to your knot so the clamshell cups the knot. Place a dab of Hypo Cement on the knot. Trim off the thread tail with thread snips. Gently close the knot cover with pliers.
- Make one overhand knot using tweezers to secure the clamshell cover in place.
- Now you will begin knotting your beads. The larger beads have larger holes, so double-knot your thread on either side of the flat circle and square beads, and triple-knot your thread on either side of the round beads, adding a dab of Hypo Cement to each knot.
- String and knot your beads in the following order: 4 small rectangle beads, 2 micro spike beads, 1 flat circle bead, 1 micro spike bead, 4 small rectangle beads, 3 flat circle beads, 7 small rectangle beads, 1 flat square bead, 1 round bead, 1 flat square bead, 1 round bead, 1 flat square bead, 1 round bead, and 1 flat square bead. See photo for reference.
- At the center of the necklace, make a triple-knot after your last square bead and then guide the cord through the first hole of one pewter open drop pendant. Make a knot as close as you can to the inner edge of the pendant. Then string one aqua chalcedony briolette. Make another knot as close as you can to the hole of the gemstone bead. Then guide the cord out through the second hole of the pewter open drop pendant. Make a triple-knot at the outer edge of the pendant. Add a dab of Hypo Cement to the triple-knots at both sides of the drop pendant.
- Continue stringing and knotting your beads in the following order: 3 round beads, 13 micro spike beads, 1 flat circle bead, 1 flat square bead, 1 flat circle bead, 1 flat square bead, 1 flat circle bead, 5 small rectangle beads, 1 flat square bead, 3 small rectangle beads, 1 flat square bead, 4 small rectangle beads. See photo for reference.
- Once your knotting is done, create a knot after the last bead and then string on another antiqued silver clamshell knot cover so the clamshell is facing away from the last knot. Make an overhand knot close to the clamshell cup to secure the knot cover, and then double-knot it. Place a dab of Hypo Cement on the knot. Trim off the thread tail with thread snips. Then close the knot cover with pliers.
- Slide the open hook at the end of one clamshell knot cover through the loop of your clasp. Use your pliers to gently close the hook.
- Slide the open hook of the other clamshell knot cover through a 6mm jump ring. Gently close the hook.
- Close the clasp, and you're finished!
