Instructions

Note: Components and tools listed within this INSTRUCTIONS box and the printer-friendly PDF, if available, may have been discontinued since this project was published. Refer to the PURCHASE COMPONENTS and TOOLS AND OTHER SUPPLIES sections for current availability.

This ring can be adjusted to your desired size. In addition to the materials listed, we recommend using a face mask and disposable gloves. You may want to spray mold release onto your mold, allowing it to dry fully before using. You will also need toothpicks and a heat source such as a lighter or small torch to complete this project. Be sure to cover your work surface when using patina and resin. Please watch all videos before beginning this project.
  1. If you are new to 2-part epoxy resin, please watch the video: How to Use Nunn Design Resin.
  2. Please also watch the video: How to Incorporate Organic Matter into 2-Part Resin by Becky Nunn.
  3. Put on your face mask and disposable gloves. Follow the instructions in Step 1 to mix the resin in a mixing cup and stir gently with a craft stick until all striations are gone.
  4. Use your craft stick or a tooth pick to drip a small amount of resin into your mold. Based on the technique shown in the video in Step 2, prepare your organics and position them into your mold. Continue to add the desired amount of resin over the top of the organic. You can use a tooth pick to reposition your organic as it shifts and settles into the resin. Remove any air bubbles with a heat source such a small torch. For the first couple of hours, continue to monitor your piece to make the desired adjustments and check for bubbles. Let the resin harden and cure for three days in a dust-free and well-ventilated area before proceeding.
  5. Use your paint brush to apply two coats of Onyx Vintaj Patina to the inside of your ring bezel. For a similar technique, refer to this video . Allow each coat of paint to dry for at least 15 minutes.
  6. Once your resin has fully cured, remove it from the mold and use a file or flush cutters to remove any rough edges.
  7. Apply a thin layer of Diamond Glaze over the entire surface of your painted ring bezel. Place your cabochon with the embedded organic into the bezel and let the glaze dry for at least one hour. All done!
