This necklace measures 16 inches total. To modify the size, adjust the lengths of chain used on either side respectively.
- If you are new to peyote bead weaving, please watch our video: How to Flat Odd-Count Peyote Stitch. Using what you have learned in the video, begin by cutting 4 feet of beading thread. String on your needle and a stopper bead.
- Create a piece of odd count peyote weaving that is 17 beads wide and 8 rows long, following the pattern shown in the illustration. Leave your needle and thread attached once you have completed your bead weaving.
- To create your chain fringe, use flush cutters to cut eighteen 1-inch lengths of chain. String the end links of two lengths of chain onto your needle and double back through the last purple seed bead you exited. Pull your thread snug to secure the chains.
- String on two more lengths of chain in the same manner, and work your needle back through the next purple seed bead, securing the chains between the beads. Repeat this step 6 more times to add two chain dangles between each purple seed bead along the bottom edge of your peyote weaving (see photo for reference).
- String on your last two chain dangles and double back through an adjacent bead, then tie off and weave in your thread.
- Next, please refer to this video on How to Attach Rose Montees for tips on the placement and sewing of the rose montees onto your bead woven base.
- To sew on your three rose montees, begin by cutting 2 feet of beading thread and stringing on your needle. Insert your needle into the center of your bead work, tie on your thread in between the beads using an overhand knot, and sew on the center rose monte. Based on the placement of your first rose montee, you will better be able to see where the other two should go on either side. This will allow you to achieve straight and centered placement of three aligned rose montees in the middle of your bead work. Note: to avoid creating multiple thread bridges across the back of your beading, work your needle through the individual seed beads instead of crossing your thread over the top of the beads. Once you have completed your sewing, tie off and weave in your thread.
- Return to the beginning of your bead work, and remove the stopper bead. String your needle back onto your tail, tie off and weave in your thread.
- To attach chain to your completed peyote stitch pendant, use flush cutters to cut two 7.5 inch lengths of chain. Open a jump ring, and string on the end link of one length of chain. Also string on the top left corner bead of your peyote weaving (see photo for reference). Close the jump ring. Repeat this step to attach chain to the other side of your necklace.
- To attach your clasp, open a jump ring. Slide it through the last link on one side of the chain, and also slide on the loop of your clasp. Close the jump ring.
- Open another jump ring. Slide on the last link of chain on the other side of the necklace. Close the jump ring. Enjoy your necklace!
