PROJECT N8060
Designer: Alexandra Smith
Skill Level: Advanced
An intricate bead woven Star of David is created using brick stitch with Miyuki Delica 11/0 seed beads in contrasting tones of pewter and blue. The design is embellished with a TierraCast Hamsa pendant and a tassel of antiqued cable chain.
Instructions

Note: Components and tools listed within this INSTRUCTIONS box and the printer-friendly PDF, if available, may have been discontinued since this project was published. Refer to the PURCHASE COMPONENTS and TOOLS AND OTHER SUPPLIES sections for current availability.

These instructions will make an 18 inch necklace. For a longer or shorter necklace, adjust the length of chain on either side respectively. Note: for a longer necklace, you may need to purchase more chain.
  1. If you are new to brick stitch, please watch the video: How to do Brick Stitch Bead Weaving. You'll be following the bead weaving pattern provided.
  2. Based on the technique shown in the video, cut a length of thread as long as you are comfortable working with (you will need approximately 10 feet to complete the star) and begin by weaving a ladder stitch base row using silver and blue beads at the starting point indicated in the photo. Be sure to leave yourself a thread tail of at least 8 inches.
  3. As you stitch the star, you will need to make brick stitch increases and decreases according to the pattern. You may also find it useful to make increases using ladder stitch. For additional tips on advanced brick stitch patterns, see this video.
  4. Once your bead weaving is complete, use pliers to open a 4mm jump ring and gently slide on a seed bead located on one corner of the star (see photo for reference). Close the jump ring. Repeat this step to attach jump rings to two more corner seed beads as shown in the photo.
  5. To hang your chain tassel and hamsa pendant: Use flush cutters to cut four 2 inch lengths of cable chain. Open one of the jump rings attached in the previous step and slide on the end links of each chain length. Close the jump ring.
  6. Now open another jump ring and slide on the loop of your hamsa pendant. Also slide on the jump ring attaching your chain tassel, fitting it between the two center lengths of chain (see photo for reference). Close the jump ring.
  7. To assemble your necklace: Cut two 8 inch lengths of cable chain. Open another of the jump rings on your star, and slide on the end link of one chain length. Close the jump ring. Repeat this step to attach chain to the third jump ring on your star (see photo for reference).
  8. To attach your clasp: Open a jump ring and slide on the end link of chain on one side of your necklace. Also slide on the loop of your clasp. Close the jump ring. Open another jump ring and slide on the end link of the chain on the opposite side of your necklace. Close the jump ring. Enjoy!
