These instructions will make a 30 inch necklace. For a longer or shorter necklace, adjust the number of knotted gemstone beads in the necklace.
- Begin by watching our video on how to do pearl knotting using tweezers.
- Following what you learned in the video, unwrap your Griffin silk from the card and find the end of the cord without the attached needle. Make an overhand knot, and triple knot it.
- As shown in the video, slide the hole of 1 clamshell knot cover onto the needle tip of your thread and slide it down to your knot so the clamshell cups the knot. Place a dab of Hypo Cement on the knot. Trim off the thread tail with thread snips. Gently close the knot cover with pliers.
- Make one overhand knot using tweezers to secure the clamshell cover in place.
- Next, please watch our video on how to do pearl and gemstone knotting with spaces between the beads. Knot 1 gold bead. Then begin knotting your garnet beads in the graduated color pattern they come in on the strand, leaving about 1/4 inch of space between each of your beads. Knot 2 segments of graduated garnets (from light to dark), then 2 gold beads. Then string the jump ring of 1 tassel. Then knot 2 more gold beads, and 2 more segments of graduated garnets (from dark to light). Then knot 1 more gold bead.
- When your knotting is done, create a knot after the last bead and then string on another clamshell knot cover so the clamshell is facing away from the last knot. Make an overhand knot close to the clamshell cup to secure the knot cover, and then triple knot it. Place a dab of Hypo Cement on the knot. Trim off the thread tail with thread snips. Then close the knot cover with pliers.
- Slide the open hook attached to one clamshell knot cover through 1 jump ring. Use your pliers to close the hook. Repeat on the other side of your necklace with another jump ring.
- Open the jump ring on one side of the necklace. Slide on the loop of your clasp. Close the jump ring. Enjoy your necklace!
