For The Necklace:
- One quick note before beginning - we are using Alexandrite briolettes which means, that like the actual stone, they will change color in different lighting. They will range from a soft blue to a purple/pink color. It's almost like magic!
- To begin, you will want to watch three videos: How to Do a Flat Right Angle Weave - Single Needle, How To Multi-Bead Right Angle Weave, and Bead Weaving Variation on Beading Loops using Briolettes . These three videos will show you essentially how to make this entire necklace. Here are some helpful guidelines though and what order to do them in:
- Start by threading a needle with 8 feet of Wildfire black beading thread. Begin your necklace by making 5 right angle weave units using Czech glass seed beads in black diamond size 8/0.
- Next, create 3 more units using right angle weave but this time string the beads so that it is: 1 Czech fire polished jet black round 3mm bead, 1 Czech seed bead in black diamond size 8/0, 1 Czech fire polished jet black round 3mm bead (the already strung seed bead from the previous step will make the 4th bead in your first unit).
- Now we will be continuing using multi-bead right angle weave. String onto your thread 1 Czech seed bead in black diamond size 8/0, 1 Czech fire polished hematite round 4mm bead, 3 more Czech seed beads, another hematite round, and finally another Czech seed bead. Perform your multiple-bead right angle weave as seen in the video. Create a total of 3 units using this combination.
- Repeat the same step as above, but replace the hematite round with Czech fire polished lt. sapphire blue round 4mm beads. Create 3 units with this combo.
- We are increasing the beads again for the next segment of the necklace but will be following the same instructions as before to how to do this. String onto your thread 2 Czech seed beads in black diamond size 8/0, 1 Czech fire polished jet black round 5mm bead, 5 more Czech seed beads, another jet black round, and finally another 2 Czech seed beads. Create 15 units of this combination.
- Now repeat step 6, step 5, step 4, and step 3 in that order to finish the other side of your necklace.
- Watch this video here on how to tie off thread in bead weaving. Tie off your thread on both sides of your necklace and weave the threads back into your bead work.
- Open a 4mm silver plated jump ring and link it through the end Czech seed bead in black diamond on one side of your necklace. Close the jump ring. Open another 4mm jump ring and link it to the one you just attached as well as the hoop at the base of the loop part of your toggle clasp. Close the jump ring. Repeat this step on the other side of your necklace attaching the bar part of your toggle clasp.
- Let's add our draping loops!
- The video on adding loops to beadwork using briolettes actually uses this necklace as the example and shows you how to do this. Please watch the video and add the loops.
For The Earrings:
- Remember to double these directions to make your matched pair of earrings.
- Thread a needle with 2 feet of Wildfire black beading thread.
- Using right angle weave, create a unit of 4 Czech seed beads in black diamond size 8/0.
- Now string 3 Czech seed beads in black diamond size 8/0, 1 Czech fire polished jet black round 3mm bead, 1 Czech fire polished hematite round 4mm bead, 1 DECO Drop, 1 Alexandrite frosted glass 13mm briolette, another DECO drop, 1 Czech fire polished hematite round 4mm bead, 1 Czech fire polished jet black round 3mm bead, and 3 Czech seed beads in black diamond size 8/0. Now pass through the bottom Czech seed bead from your original unit created by your right angle weave. Take your threaded needle and pass all the way back through all the beads you just strung until you come back up the top. Now see this video on tying off your thread in bead weaving and tie off your thread and work your tail back into the bead work.
- Open a 4mm jump ring and link it through the top Czech seed bead from your original unit of 4. Also link onto it the hole at the base of your tapered silver plated earring hook. Close the jump ring back up.
- All done! Enjoy
