By following the instructions below, you will make one earring. Repeat all instructions to make the second earring.
- If you are new to peyote bead weaving, please watch our video: How to Flat Odd Count Peyote Stitch. Using what you have learned in the video, begin by cutting 3 feet of beading thread. String on your needle and a stopper bead.
- Create a piece of odd count peyote weaving that is 7 beads wide and 7 rows long, following the pattern shown in the illustration. Leave your needle and thread attached once you have completed your bead weaving.
- To create your chain fringe, use flush cutters to cut eight 1 inch lengths of chain. String the end links of two lengths of chain onto your needle and thread, and double back through the last brown seed bead that you exited. Pull your thread snug to secure the chains.
- String on two more lengths of chain in the same manner, and work your needle back through the next brown seed bead, pulling your thread snug to secure the chains between the beads. Repeat this step once more to add two chain lengths between each brown seed bead along the bottom edge of your peyote weaving (see photo for reference).
- String on your last two lengths of chain and double back through an adjacent bead, then tie off and weave in your thread.
- Next, please refer to this video on How to Attach Rose Montees. This video will provide you with tips on the placement and sewing of the rose montees onto your bead woven base.
- To sew on your rose montee, begin by cutting 2 feet of beading thread and stringing on your needle. Insert your needle into the center of your bead work, tie on your thread in between the beads using an overhand knot, and begin sewing at the center of your bead weaving. Note: to avoid creating multiple thread bridges across the back of your beading, work your needle through the individual seed beads instead of crossing your thread over the top of the bead weaving. Once you have completed your sewing, tie off and weave in your thread.
- Return to the beginning of your bead work and remove the stopper bead. String your needle back onto your tail, tie off and weave in your thread.
- To create the chain attachment for your earring hook, use flush cutters to cut two 0.5 inch lengths of chain. Open a jump ring and string on the end link of one length of chain. Also string on the top left corner bead of your peyote weaving (see photo for reference). Close the jump ring. Repeat this step to attach chain to the other side of your earring.
- To attach your earring hook, open a jump ring. Slide it through the last link on each side of your 0.5 inch chains, and also slide on the loop of your earring hook. Close the jump ring. Enjoy your earrings!
