Please note that you will need 12 bobbins for this project. You will also need a toothpick or scrap of wire. These instructions will give you a 7.5 inch bracelet. To adjust the length, simply modify the length of the braid.
- Please watch our video: How to Do a 12 Warp Kumihimo Round Braid. In this video, we walk you through the technique of making a 12 Warp Kumihimo Braid. The video will walk you through all the steps below.
- Begin by preparing your satin rattail cord. Fold each of the cords in half. You will have two purple, a blue, a black, a pink, and a yellow. Find the midpoint and tie an overhand knot to create one big loop.
- Thread the knot down through the center of the Kumihimo disc. Attach the gator clip to the knot.
- Place one blue cord in between the 29 and 30. Then another blue cord in between the 13 and 14.
- Place one black cord in between the 30 and 31. Then another black cord in between the 14 and 15.
- Place one pink cord in between the 1 and 2. Then another pink cord in between the 17 and 18.
- Place one yellow cord in between the 2 and 3. Then another yellow cord in between the 18 and 19.
- Place one purple cord in between the 23 and 24. Then another purple cord in between the 24 and 25. Place one purple cord in between the 7 and 8. Then another purple cord in between the 8 and 9.
- Wind all your bobbins.
- To begin the braiding process, take the cord between the 18 and 19 and move it up so it is between the 28 and 29.
- Take the cord between the 30 and 31 and move it down so it is between the 16 and 17.
- Take the cord between the 14 and 15 and move it up so it is between the 32 and 1.
- Take the cord between the 2 and 3 and move it down so it is between the 12 and 13.
- Rotate 90 degrees Counter-Clockwise.
- Take the cord between the 24 and 25 and move it up so it is between the 6 and 7.
- Take the cord between the 8 and 9 and move it down so it is between the 22 and 23.
- Rotate 90 degrees Counter-Clockwise.
- Now repeat the braiding process as seen in the video, the numbers will change because we are rotating the disc.
- Braid until you have about 7 1/2 inch braid. Remove the gator weight, and cut off the bobbins. Remove the braid from the disc and gather them together to make an overhand knot.
- Take a scrap of black cord, or color of your choice and tie it around the last 1/2 inch or so of the braid and then wind it around the braid to bulk it up, as seen in the video. Tie another overhand knot with the tails. And one extra one around the back for security.
- Place a dab of E6000 on to the knots before trimming the cords. Once the glue is dry, trim the ends. Repeat on the other side.
- On one side cut the braid and trim the tails. Place a dab of E6000 into the well of the bullet end cap and place the end of the braid into the well. You may find it helpful to use a chain nose plier to get a nice snug fit. Repeat on the other side.
- To finish with the toggle clasp, take one jump ring and attach it to one side of the toggle clasp and to one bullet end cap and then close the jump ring back up. Repeat on the other side and you're all done.
