These instructions will give you a 30" inch necklace, with the additional length of the blue portion and tassels of 8". To modify the length, adjust the number of Gold Lustered Raspberry beads accordingly. Note: You will also need a toothpick or scrap of wire for this project.
- Please watch our video: How to Braid Beaded Kumihimo and Make a Bracelet. In this video you will learn how to do a 8 Strand Kumihimo Bracelet. From what you learned in the video you will cut 8 strands of red cord 7 feet in length each.
- Gather all 8 cord ends and tie a simple overhand knot tying them all together. Holding the board facing up, thread this knot through the center hole.
- Place the cords to the left and right of the 32 dot as well as to the left and right of the 16 dot. You will then want to place a cord to the left and right of the 24 dot and to the left and right of the 8 dot. Attach your weight to the knot after you have positioned your cords.
- Now string 200 gold lustered raspberry beads on to each strand and wind the bobbins. If your bobbins are having trouble holding the weight, I suggest stringing 100 beads, then braiding and once those you get down to a bead or two, unwind the bobbin and add the remaining beads.
- Begin the braiding as shown on in the video. Braid about one inch of cord before you begin adding the beads.
- Continue braiding until you have added all of your beads, or reached your desired length. Then continue braiding and finish with 1 inch of braiding without beads, same as you did at the beginning.
- Carefully take the braid off of the disc, trim the bobbins off and tie an overhand knot. Set this braid aside.
- Repeat the above process to create the blue braid. Cut 8 strands of cord 4 feet each. String on 50 metallic riverside beads to each strand. Braid the braid. Once done, take it off the disc and tie an overhand knot.
- Next, please watch our video: How to Finish a Kumihimo Braid to Fit into a Larger Clasp or Cord End. From what you have learned in the video, finish each end with an end cap. To the blue ends, attach one tassel to each using one jump ring. To the red braid, attach the clasp using jump rings as seen in the video. You can attach the clasp and tassels before you glue the ends or after. It is up to you.
- The final step is to create the knot. Please watch our video: How to Make a Single Square Knot For Beaded Kumihimo.
- We suggest allowing your necklace to dry for 24 to achieve a maximum bond before wearing.
