Instructions

Note: Components and tools listed within this INSTRUCTIONS box and the printer-friendly PDF, if available, may have been discontinued since this project was published. Refer to the PURCHASE COMPONENTS and TOOLS AND OTHER SUPPLIES sections for current availability.

These instructions will make a bracelet that measures approximately 6.5". To adjust the length, simply add more rows onto the beginning and end of your bracelet.
  1. Before you begin, watch the video How to do Flat Even Count Peyote Stitch. During the course of this project, you will need to tie off and add new thread several times. If you are not familiar with how to do this, watch this video.
  2. Create a piece of peyote stitch bead weaving 20 beads wide using size 10/0 steel metallic beads. Leave an 8" tail at the beginning of your work. Complete 143 rows of weaving.
  3. Leave your needle threaded. Next, we will create a beaded toggle and attach it to your bracelet. This process is demonstrated in this video.
  4. Turn and continue weaving, but complete the next 5 rows only 5 beads wide. This will create a tab on one end to attach the toggle loop. This piece is worked in flat odd count peyote, which you can learn how to do in this video.
  5. Start a new piece of even count peyote 20 beads wide and complete 8 rows. Weave back over to the other end of this piece and add on a piece 5 beads by 5 rows at this end. Match this piece up to the end of your main bracelet piece and use the thread tails to zip them together.
  6. Create a new piece of even count peyote that is 16 beads wide and complete 10 rows. Use the thread tail to zip this piece shut into a tube.
  7. Weave the tail at the beginning of your work over to the center and add a piece of even count peyote 4 beads wide and six rows long. Attach this to the center of the tube you created by zipping it into the side beads.
  8. Now we will attach the pyramid beads. Pull your work snug as you go to keep your pyramid beads straight and secure.
  9. With a new length of thread, weave down into the main part of the bracelet as shown in the illustration. Following the pink dotted line, weave down through the third bead on the left edge. Continue diagonally through 7 beads then exit out the top of the weaving.
  10. The purple line on the illustration shows where your thread will pass through a hole in a 2-hole Czech glass pyramid bead. Bring your needle through the top hole on a pyramid bead, then reverse direction and pass through six beads on the bracelet diagonally.
  11. Pass through the bottom hole on your pyramid bead, then through one bead on the bracelet, again shown by the pink dotted line.
  12. Reverse direction and go through the bead directly below the one you exited and down through eight beads diagonally. When you pull this snug, the thread will slip between rows.
  13. Reverse direction and go through the bead directly above the bead you exited.
  14. Bring your needle through the top hole on a pyramid bead, then reverse direction and pass through six beads on the bracelet diagonally.
  15. Pass through the bottom hole on your pyramid bead, then through one bead on the bracelet, again shown by the pink dotted line.
  16. Repeat steps 12 - 15 to attach the remaining 9 pyramid beads.
  17. After attaching the final pyramid bead, tie off and weave in all of your thread tails.
