The techniques demonstrated are: how to open and close a jump ring, how to make a simple wire loop, how to make a wrapped wire loop, how to open the loop at the base of an earring hook, how to open an eye pin, how to tie an overhand knot, and how to tie a surgeons knot.

Hi, this is Julie with beadaholique.com and all these techniques require just very simple tools such as a pair of cutters a chain nose plier a round nose plier and a pair of scissors and these are going to be the essential tools for our mini kids now many kids are quick and easy kids that are designed to be completed in less than 20 minutes using just these basic tools and some really basic techniques and that's what I'm going to show you in this video so I'm going to show you how to make a simple wire loop how to make a wrapped wire loop how to open and close a jump ring how to open the loop at the base of an earring hook as well as an eye pin and how to make a surgeon's knot as well as a simple overhand knot so if you're familiar with beadaholique.com and bead weaving and sometimes come with a loom or come with a kumihimo disk and those kits are great because they are for people who want a little bit of a longer project but we wanted to give you kits that are really just fun quick and easy great for beginners as well as people who are more experienced who want a really pretty project in a short amount of time let's start on our techniques so I'm going to first start by showing you how to make a simple wire loop so that is what we have here and for this you're gonna need three tools chain nose round nose and cutters so I'm gonna take a head pin if you're not feeling a little you're with what a head pin is it has a little head at the top and that actually stops the bead from falling off whoops so here we go so that bead is now anchored on there now to make a simple wire loop you're going to start with your chain nose pliers and you're gonna grab that wire right where it exits the bead and you're going to bend it at a 45 degree angle and then you're going to take your round nose pliers and you're gonna go right in there next to that Bend you're going to grip it and you're going to actually take that wire and with your fingers rotate the wire over the top of the round nose pliers and you see the round nose pliers are aptly named because they have two around noses rotate your pliers to the top and continue your wrapping and then right where that wire Criss crosses you're gonna cut it and then you're gonna want to take your chain nose pliers and just straighten it up now what's nice about a simple wire loop is you can open it so let's say you want to attach something to it you just open it like so you just twist it open and then you twist it back in place and you never pull it apart you never pull it out you always just twist it so that is a simple wire loop now a wrapped wire loop is very similar we're gonna take another bead we're gonna put it on the head pin and this time we're gonna take our pliers and we're gonna bend the wire over the top of them at a ninety degree angle you can take now our round nose pliers and grab it and Bend that wire up and over and around rotate your pliers to the top and now crisscross it so you made that loop now what you're gonna do is you gonna go back and take your chain nose pliers these are great for gripping your wire and you're gonna take the tail end with your fingers and you're gonna wrap it so like the name suggests a wrapped wire loop then you're gonna keep wrapping it's usually going to be two or three wraps that you're going to be able to get depending on how much of that little wire bridge you have and then you're gonna go to the back and you're gonna trim off with your cutters the excess wire and then you're going to take your chain nose and just press that tail into place now you'll notice with the wrapped wire loop we cannot open it so we could definitely connect a jump ring to it or eyepin but the loop itself is completely closed and very secure so I would say wrapped wire loops are a little bit more secure than a simple wire loop but the simple wire loop does give you the option to open and close it as you're working so those are the two loops now I do want to show you real quick how you would open and close the loop at the base of an earring hook as well as a head pin because this is often I'm sorry an eye pin this is often needed for jewelry construction twist it open slip on whatever you want to slip on maybe you want to slip on your wrapped wire loop and twist it back close and you are set same exact thing for an eye pin twist it open twist it back shut so again really handy for construction now a jump ring is also really easy to open and now if you have a second pair of chain nose pliers at home you can definitely use a second pair of chain nose to grip it or you can use your round nose I'm going to use the round nose because I do want to keep it pretty simple here there is a little opening up at the top there's a little slit so you're gonna grip it on either side of the slit with that opening up atop and twist it open again now you can loop something on to it if you want and then twist it shut now one thing I'm going to show you the wrong way to open a jump ring and that would be to take it like this and like this and try to pull it apart you never want to do that you're gonna miss shape the ring and it's gonna be really hard to get it to close again so that is how you open and close a jump ring properly now I want to show you two different knots I'm gonna cut my cord in half the first knot is going to be a simple overhand knot so you take your cord or thread or whatever you've got you make a loop you take the front tail that goes over the back tail you pull it through the center and then you just pull and that is a simple knot now a surgeon's knot it's very similar let's make a loop go through the center once go through the center twice and that is a surgeon's knot so those are your two knots as well so these are the techniques you're going to need to know to make a beadaholique mini kit sometimes you'll use all of them sometimes you'll just use opening and closing of jump rings or a simple wire loop it varies but we did want to show you in one video the basic tools for mini kits as well as the basic techniques again many kits are fun they're easy they can be done in less than 20 minutes they're very affordable and they just create really lovely jewelry projects and they're available at beadaholique.com
