Instructions

Note: Components and tools listed within this INSTRUCTIONS box and the printer-friendly PDF, if available, may have been discontinued since this project was published. Refer to the PURCHASE COMPONENTS and TOOLS AND OTHER SUPPLIES sections for current availability.

Measure your wrist before you begin. You will want your finished bracelet to be about 1/2" longer than your wrist measurement. The chains and clasp on this bracelet will add just a bit over 1 1/2".
  1. Before you begin, watch the instructional videos: How to Use a Bead Loom and How to Finish and Back Loom Weaving.
  2. When threading your loom before you start, you will want to skip one thread channel between each warp thread to leave room for the wider Tila beads. Thread your loom with six warp threads in this manner.
  3. Begin weaving Tila beads in crystal frosted mist and translucent smokey amethyst AB in a checkerboard pattern by alternating colors in both directions. The first row is woven the same way that you would weave seed beads on the loom, going through just one hole of the Tilas. Then gently push down on the beads to bring the second holes below the warp threads. Take your needle below the warp threads and through the second holes. Then push them up into the warp threads like you would seed beads and bring your needle above the warp threads and back through the second holes.
  4. Continue this pattern until your woven piece is the desired length. Then remove it from the loom, tie the warp threads in pairs into overhand knots as shown in the finishing video, and trim.
  5. Place your beaded piece onto a piece of grey ultra suede and use it as a guide to cut a piece the same size.
  6. Sew your beaded piece onto the ultra suede backing as shown in the finishing video.
  7. Cut two lengths of antique silver plated filed curb chain that are 1/4" longer than the length you want your finished bracelet to be.
  8. Starting with the 9th link in the chain, sew the chain onto the side of the bracelet, making sure it's lying nice and flat against the side. Use a whipstitch, just like you did to sew the backing onto the beadwork. All of your threads should start and end in the bead weaving, allowing you to weave them in and keep them hidden.
  9. Open a 4mm, 21 gauge antique silver plated jump ring and put it through both of the last links of chain on one side of the bracelet. Then add half of an antique silver plated magnetic clasp and close the jump ring. Repeat with the other side of the bracelet.
