This necklace brings gold and silver elements together to form a striking mixed metals design. The focal is a lovely thistle design from TierraCast with a PRESTIGE crystal dangle accent.

Instructions

Note: Components and tools listed within this INSTRUCTIONS box and the printer-friendly PDF, if available, may have been discontinued since this project was published. Refer to the PURCHASE COMPONENTS and TOOLS AND OTHER SUPPLIES sections for current availability.

In this project, you will start by making your focal so that it has time to dry before you finish the rest of the design. Please note, you will also be custom making part of your clasp. If you would prefer, you can skip this step and use a 5mm or 6mm jump ring instead.

Please start by watching the video: How to Make a Focal Link with a Button and a Bezel. The video uses super glue, which you can use if you have it, or E6000 glue which is listed in the project components. For this project, you will want to position the thistle and link so that it is vertically oriented versus horizontally which is shown in the video. Please see project photos if there is any confusion as to orientation. Please make your focal link and let dry for at least several hours.
Place onto a ball head pin 1 bead cap facing up, 1 Olive bead, and one bead cap facing down. Create a wrapped wire loop after the last bead cap. Trim off excess wire.
Open a jump ring and link it to the bottom loop on the focal link and also the wrapped wire loop of the dangle you made in the previous step. Close the jump ring.
Cut the following lengths of chain: 2 lengths of silver chain that are 6 inches long each, 4 lengths of silver chain that are 3 inches long each, and 4 lengths of gold chain that are 3 inches long each.
Open a jump ring and link onto it the following 3-inch lengths of chain: 1 silver, 1 gold, 1 silver, 1 gold. Close the jump ring. On the other side of the chains, open and attach another jump ring. Close that jump ring too. Make a second one of these chain sections in the exact same way.
Open a jump ring and link it to the top loop of the focal link and one of the jump rings from one of the chain sections you just made. Close the jump ring. Repeat this step with your other chain section.
Open a jump ring and connect it to the jump ring on the other side of one of your chain sections (the side not connected to the focal link) and also connect onto it the end chain link of one of your 6-inch lengths of chain. Close the jump ring. Repeat this step on the other side of your necklace.
Open a jump ring and connect it to the other side of one of the 6 inch lengths of chain as well as the loop at the base of the lobster clasp. Close the jump ring.
Almost done! Next, please watch the video: Jewelry Making Hack: How to Complete a Clasp Set. This video will show you how to make the other half of your clasp, the part that the lobster clasp will latch onto. Please watch the video and make this part of your clasp from a ball head pin.
Open a jump ring and link it to the loop on the base of the clasp section you just completed as well as the end link of the 6 inch chain length on the side of your necklace that is not complete. Close the jump ring. All done! Enjoy.
