Note: Components and tools listed within this INSTRUCTIONS box and the printer-friendly PDF, if available, may have been discontinued since
this project was published. Refer to the PURCHASE COMPONENTS and TOOLS AND OTHER SUPPLIES sections for current availability.
NOTE: For this project, you will also need a paint brush, a pen, a clean disposable mixing cup, and a stir stick such as a popsicle stick.
- Begin by locating the green patterned floral image on your Middle Eastern art collage sheet. See photo for image reference.
- Using your pen, outline the brooch rectangle shape using your Nunn Design brooch as a template.
- Using your scissors, cut this image out.
- Next, spread a layer of Nunn Design Glue onto the backside of the image. Set this down into your Nunn Design rectangular brooch bezel (image side up) and press into place, making sure to remove any air bubbles. Let dry fully.
- Using your paint brush, paint 3 layers of Nunn Sealant over your image, letting each coat dry thoroughly between applications and cleaning your brush in between coats.
- While waiting a few minutes for the sealant to completely dry, prepare your work space to begin painting with patina.
- Using a clean brush, begin painting your Vintaj sparrow stamping with Purple Opalite and Jade Green Vintaj patinas. I added both colors onto my stamping, in no particular design. See photo for reference.
- While your patina is still a little wet, take your Vintaj relief block, and using the side, start sanding the raised areas of your stamping to show off the detail. Set the stamping aside for now.
- Next, using your flush cutters, carefully snip off the loops that are on your sparrow stamping.
- Set your stamping into your bezel brooch, making sure that the sparrow's head is facing up and in the same direction as the loop on the back of your brooch. (You can also add chain to the back to make it a necklace).
- Watch the video: How to Use Ice Resin.
- To keep your brooch at an even level, cut a slit in the top of a cardboard box and insert the backing of the brooch into the cardboard, making sure that it's level and flat.
- Following what you learned in the video, mix and pour a layer of resin into your bezel setting over your collage paper, completely covering it. Ensure that there isn't any air trapped under your stamping. Pour until you reach the top of your bezel edge. Remove any air bubbles with a torch.
- Keep the brooch facing up, allowing it to cure for 3 days.
- You're done!
