These instructions will make a 22 inch necklace. For a longer or shorter necklace, adjust the lengths of chain on both sides of the necklace. For a longer necklace, please be advised that you will need to buy an additional foot of chain. If you want to adjust the length of your beaded crochet focal, keep in mind that 1 inch of crocheted rope requires about 7 inches of strung beads, so plan accordingly as you string your beads onto your thread.
- Please begin by watching our video on how to do circular beaded crochet for righties. (If you are left-handed, you can watch our video on how to do circular beaded crochet for lefties.) You will be making a 6-around rope instead of 4-around as shown in the video.
- Following the instructions in the video, start by loading all of your beads onto your micro s-lon thread, without cutting the thread from the spool. String the beads in the following pattern: two 4mm red pearls, two 4mm blue pearls, two 5mm white pearls. Repeat this pattern until you have about 70 inches of beads strung.
- Leaving an 8 inch tail on the free end of the thread, create a slipknot and chain stitch your first 6 beads. Then close the circle and begin to crochet your beads into a 6-around spiral rope. Your crocheted rope should be about 9 1/2 inches long when you're done.
- Once you've crocheted all of your beads, cut the rope from the spool of s-lon, leaving another 8 inch thread tail on the end.
- Thread a big eye needle onto one of your thread tails. String the loop of 1 gold eye pin and slide the eye pin down to your crocheted beadwork. Sew back down into your beadwork with the big eye needle, securing the eye pin and weaving the thread tail into your rope. Come back out the top of the rope and make a few more passes through the loop of the eye pin so it is fastened securely. Then continue weaving the tail into the crocheted rope. Once you have woven in about 4 inches of the tail, exit the rope with the big eye needle and cut off the excess thread with thread snips.
- String 1 gold bead cap onto the eye pin and slide it down so it cups the end of the crocheted rope. Using pliers, make a simple wire loop with the eye pin and cut off the excess wire with flush cutters.
- Repeat steps 5-6 to finish the other side of your crocheted rope.
- Using flush cutters, cut two 6 inch lengths of gold chain.
- Open the wire loop on one side of the beaded rope focal the same way you would open a jump ring. Slide on the first link of one piece of chain. Close the wire loop. Repeat this step on the other side of the beaded focal.
- Open a jump ring. Slide on the last link of chain on one side of the necklace, and also slide on the loop of your lobster clasp. Close the jump ring.
- Open another jump ring. Slide on the last link of chain on the other side of the necklace. Close the jump ring. Enjoy your necklace!
