Retired - La Jolla Necklace

1. Begin by watching our video on how to do pearl knotting using tweezers.
2. Following what you learned in the video, unwrap your Griffin silk from the card and find the end of the cord without the attached needle. Make an overhand knot and triple knot it so it will stay securely in the clamshell knot cover.
3. As shown in the video, slide the hole of one gold clamshell knot cover onto the needle tip of your thread and slide it down to your knot so the clamshell cups the knot. Place a dab of Hypo Cement on the knot. Trim off the thread tail with thread snips. Gently close the knot cover with pliers.
4. Make one overhand knot using tweezers to secure the clamshell cover in place.
5. Now you will begin knotting your gemstone and metal beads. Knot 3 turquoise jasper beads, followed by 1 gold bead. Repeat that pattern 7 times. Then knot 3 more turquoise jasper beads. Your length of gemstone knotting should measure about 6 1/2 inches.
6. Once your knotting is done, create a knot after the last jasper bead. String on another gold clamshell knot cover so the clamshell is facing away from the last knot. Make an overhand knot close to the clamshell cup to secure the knot cover, and then triple knot it. Place a dab of Hypo Cement on the knot. Trim off the rest of the thread with thread snips. Then close the knot cover with pliers.
7. Repeat steps 2-6 to create another, identical length of gemstone knotting (you will have more than enough Griffin silk left over to make this second piece).
8. Using flush cutters, cut a 4 inch piece of gold chain. You will use this chain to connect the two lengths of gemstone knotting.
9. Slide the open hook of one clamshell knot cover on your first knotted length through the first link of chain. Use flat nose pliers to close the hook.
10. Slide the open hook of one clamshell knot cover on your second knotted length through the last link of chain. Use flat nose pliers to close the hook. Set this portion of the necklace aside.
11. Cut a 4 inch piece of gold wire.
12. String one jasper briolette bead onto the wire. Wire wrap the briolette, attaching the loop to the center link of chain in the middle of the necklace before finishing the wrap. Cut off the excess wire with flush cutters.
13. Cut a 1 inch piece of gold chain. This will serve as your necklace extender.
14. Move to the ends of the necklace. Slide the open hook of one clamshell knot cover through the loop of your lobster clasp. Use flat nose pliers to close the hook.
15. Slide the open hook of the other clamshell knot cover through the first link of the 1 inch piece of chain. Use flat nose pliers to close the hook.
16. Close the clasp using any link of the 1 inch piece of chain you like, for an adjustable fit. Enjoy your necklace!
