Allow the natural shape of the gemstone chips to stand out in this braided necklace design. Copper elements and aromatic cedar wood beads complete this stand-out style.

Instructions

This necklace measures approximately 21 inches. To modify the length, simply adjust the number of gemstone chips strung on each strand respectively.

Take all three colors of silk off the cards. Gather the ends with the needles.
Thread all three needles up and over the thread protectors and back down. String on the loop of one end of the toggle clasp so it sits in the thread protector. Pull the silk so that you have tails of about 3 inches on the non-needle sides. Take all strands and tie an overhand knot. Use a bent nose tweezer to help get the knot up close to the thread protector, same as you would if you were doing pearl knotting.
Place a dab of glue on the knot and then take a crimp cover and cover the knot. Trim the tails of the silk.
Next tie another overhand knot, and add another dab of glue and a crimp cover. Repeat once more.
Take all three strands together and string on 10 wood beads. Tie a knot, add a dab of glue and cover with a crimp cover.
Then take the blue cord and string on 12 inches of lapis gemstone chips.
Take the green cord and string on 12 inches of aventurine gemstone chips.
Take the orange cord and string on 12 inches of carnelian gemstone chips.
Carefully do a loose braid with the three strands of gemstones.
Gather all three cords and tie an overhand knot, and add a dab of glue and a crimp cover.
On to all three strands string on 10 wood beads. Tie a knot, add a dab of glue and cover with a crimp cover. Repeat once more.
Thread all three needles up and over another thread protector and back down. String on the loop of the other end of the toggle clasp so it sits in the thread protector. Pull the silk taught. Take all strands and tie an overhand knot. Place a dab of glue on to the knot. Add a crimp cover and trim the tails of the silk.
