Carnelian Caged Cabochon Necklace

1. Please start by watching the video: How to Make a Caged Wire Wrapped Cabochon. This video shows the technique you will be using to wire wrap your 40x30mm cabochon. However, you will be using different gauges and lengths of wire as specified in the steps below.
2. Use flush cutters to cut the following lengths of craft wire: three 12 inch lengths of 18 gauge wire, and three 3 inch lengths of 20 gauge wire.
3. Follow along with the video to assemble the frame for your cabochon by wire wrapping the two gauges of wire together as shown. To achieve this design, you will be shaping the wire to fit around your cabochon so that the oval lies horizontally (see photo for reference). Note: the same technique will also work if you prefer to orient your cabochon vertically.
4. Wire wrap the bail and spiral embellishments for your pendant as shown in the video.
5. Once you have completed wire wrapping your cabochon, cut 19.5 inches of rolo chain.
6. To attach your clasp: Use pliers to open a 5mm jump ring and slide on one end link of your chain. Also slide on the loop of your clasp. Close the jump ring.
7. Now slide the bail of your cabochon onto the chain.
8. Open another jump ring and slide on the opposite end link of your chain. Close the jump ring. All done!
