Vintage Halloween Postcards - Inspiring Images for Jewelry Design

Happy Halloween!

What a wonderful and joyous time of year this is. Every October 31st is filled with laughing kids, costumes, candies, parties, decorations, and more. There is palpable excitement in the air for weeks leading up to this special night, which then overflows into wonderful chaos where memories are made.

Halloween is not a new tradition by any means. Its roots can be traced back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain almost 2,000 years ago. Since then, cultures all around the world have celebrated different forms of what we call Halloween. For this special day, we wanted to share some vintage Halloween postcards which share a slice of history of how people over 100 years ago enjoyed celebrating Halloween.

I personally love using copies of images like these in my jewelry design work -I never use the originals, to me they are too precious. Some ideas of how to incorporate them into your jewelry is to shrink them down using your home computer (or you can go to a copy store and they will do it for you) and then set them into bezels. You can cover them with Diamond Glaze, 2-part Resin such as Nunn Design Resin, or UV Resin like Gel du Soleil. These make pieces of wonderfully themed wearable art that feels unique and full of character. You can make necklaces, earrings, bracelet focals and more.

We have numerous videos in our Mixed Media Instructional Videos page showing how to incorporate images into jewelry design. Scroll through the 7 pages of videos to find a technique that appeals to you. One of my favorite videos is by the great Becky Nunn:
