NOTE: Seaside image not included in kit. Choose an image you like from an old magazine, notecard or even a photo.
- Start by finding an image that you want to make the centerpiece of your necklace. We found an old notecard but you can use a photo, art print, postcard, collage sheet, or any other paper source. If the image you want to use is too large, and if it is not copy-writed, you can take it to your local copy center and they can shrink it down for you and print you a fresh copy to work with that is smaller in scale. Once you have your image, take your oval paper punch and flip it over so that you can look into the actual area where you will be punching and center your image. Then punch.
- Using a small paint brush, apply a layer of Nunn Design permanent glue to the back side (blank side) of your image and place it into the oval bezel setting. Press into place with your fingers and smooth out so no air is trapped underneath. Let dry completely. Wash out your paintbrush with water and let dry.
- Using a small paint brush, apply a layer of Nunn Design sealant on top of your image. Make sure that you go all the way to the edges. Let dry completely and wash out your paint brush again using water.
- Using Ice Resin, fill your bezel with resin and wait 3 days for it to completely cure before handling to complete your necklace. Do not rush this process, wait for the resin to cure before going onto the next step.
- Once your pendant is ready to be handled, cut a 3 inch length of 24 gauge wire. Start making a wrapped wire loop and insert the top loop of your pendant into the loop you are making before you finish the wrapping. Complete your wrapped wire loop and then thread onto the wire a 4mm Austrian crystal faux pearl bead in coral. Make a wrapped wire loop at the top and cut off excess wire using your flush cutters. Set aside
- Take your matte gold shell charm chain and cut 4 or 5 links open with your flush cutters. Separate the cut links so that you remove all the small shell charms. You want to end up with 12 shell charms. Do not cut the charms themselves, only the links holding them in place.
- Cut 12 lengths of 24 gauge wire, 2 inches long each.
- Take one 2 inch length of wire and make a simple wire loop on one end. Open slightly that loop you just made and insert one shell charm, close the loop back up. Thread onto the wire a 4mm Austrian crystal faux pearl bead in coral and then make a wrapped wire loop. Cut off excess wire. Repeat this step 5 more times so that you end up with 6 identical coral/shell dangles. Set aside
- For this step, we are going to repeat the last step but add a couple Miyuki beads: take one 2 inch length of wire and make a simple wire loop on one end. Open slightly that loop you just made and insert one shell charm, close the loop back up. Thread onto the wire a Miyuki delica seed bead in opaque pearl, 4mm Austrian crystal faux pearl bead in coral, and a Miyuki delica seed bead in opaque pearl. Make a wrapped wire loop after the last bead and cut off excess wire. Repeat this step 5 more times so that you end up with 6 identical dangles which are just slightly longer then the ones you made in the last step. Set aside
- Cut 25 inches of your gold bead stringing wire. Place one end of the stringing wire into a bead stopper leaving a tail of approximately 4 inches.
- Start stringing your necklace now in the following order:
- 1 gold crimp bead
- 1 gilded marble turquoise Toho seed bead
- 1 opaque pearl Miyuki delica seed bead
- 1 gilded marble turquoise Toho seed bead
- 1 crystal celsian Czech fire polished 4mm bead
- 1 matte metallic gold Czech fired polished 4mm bead
- 1 crystal celsian Czech fire polished 4mm bead
- 1 turquoise Czech glass table cut window teardrop bead (with the wider part of the bead placed on the stringing wire first)
- 1 crystal celsian Czech fire polished 4mm bead
- 1 matte metallic gold Czech fired polished 4mm bead
- 1 gilded marble turquoise Toho seed bead
- 1 coral Austrian crystal faux pearl
- 1 gilded marble turquoise Toho seed bead
- 1 matte metallic gold Czech fired polished 4mm bead
- 1 crystal celsian Czech fire polished 4mm bead
- 1 turquoise Czech glass table cut window teardrop bead
- String the following pattern 2 times:
- 1 crystal celsian Czech fire polished 4mm bead
- 1 matte metallic gold Czech fired polished 4mm bead
- 1 gilded marble turquoise Toho seed bead
- 1 of the longer shell dangles you made in previous steps (make sure your shell charms all face the same direction when you put them on the string)
- 1 gilded marble turquoise Toho seed bead
- 1 matte metallic gold Czech fired polished 4mm bead
- 1 crystal celsian Czech fire polished 4mm bead
- 1 turquoise Czech glass table cut window teardrop bead
- String:
- 1 crystal celsian Czech fire polished 4mm bead
- 1 gilded marble turquoise Toho seed bead
- 1 of your longer shell dangles
- 1 gilded marble turquoise Toho seed bead
- 1 crystal celsian Czech fire polished 4mm bead
- 1 turquoise Czech glass table cut window teardrop bead
- String the following pattern 3 times:
- 1 matte metallic gold Czech fired polished 4mm bead
- 1 gilded marble turquoise Toho seed bead
- 1of your shorter shell dangles
- 1 gilded marble turquoise Toho seed bead
- 1 matte metallic gold Czech fired polished 4mm bead
- 1 turquoise Czech glass table cut window teardrop bead
- String:
- 1 crystal celsian Czech fire polished 4mm bead
- 1 matte metallic gold Czech fired polished 4mm bead
- 1 gilded marble turquoise Toho seed bead
- your oval pendant hanging from the wrapped wire loop at the top of the coral bead (make sure the shells and pendant are all facing in the same direction)
- You have now just completed one side of your necklace. Continue stringing the other side making it a mirror image of the side you just completed. When you finish stringing, you should end up with a crimp bead as the last bead you string.
- Take the eye part of your clasp and string it onto your beading wire through the loop at the bottom. Feed the beading wire tail back through your crimp bead and several of the beads next to it, pull snug, and using your crimping pliers, crimp into place. Cut off the excess beading wire.
- Go to the other end of your necklace which has the bead stopper holding it in place and remove the bead stopper but don't let your beads fall off. Place the hook part of your clasp onto your beading wire through the loop at the bottom. Feed the beading wire tail back through your crimp bead and several of the beads next to it, pull snug. Before crimping, gently feel your necklace, examine the beads and make sure you have a tension you like. If you have a large gap, pull the beading wire tighter, if all the beads are too stiff, then loosen your beading wire a little bit giving the beads room to breath. Once you are happy with the tension, use your crimping pliers and crimp your crimp bead into place. Cut off the excess beading wire.
