The finished necklace measures just around 17 inches. If you want to make it longer, add additional inches of non-beaded braid to each side of the necklace in the instructions below or add extra jump rings up by the clasp.
- Cut 4 lengths of medium purple S-Lon cord, 50 inches long each.
- Cut 4 lengths of olive green S-Lon cord, 50 inches long each.
- Onto one length of purple cord, string 47 Preciosa Czech Crystal 4mm bicone beads in tanzanite. Take the tail of the cord and wind it onto a bobbin. Keep winding until all your beads are encased in the bobbin and you have a tail sticking out of approximately 12 inches.
- Repeat the previous step with your other 3 lengths of purple S-Lon cord, tanzanite bicones, and bobbins.
- Repeat the previous two steps but use olive green S-Lon and Czech glass top-drilled flat 6mm lentil beads in luminescent green instead.
- Next, please watch the video: How to Braid Beaded Kumihimo and make a bracelet.
- All the skills that are taught in the video can be applied to this project, you are just using different beads.
- Take your 8 cord tails and tie a simple knot at the end. Thread the knot through the hole in the middle of the Kumihimo disk and attach the weight to the knot.
- Line up your beaded S-Lon cords (with beads and bobbins) in the following positions on the Kumihimo disk: purple cords and beads to the left and right of the 32 and the 16, green cords and beads to the left and right of the 8 and the 24.
- Now, based upon what you learned in the video, do a standard 8 warp Kumihimo braid without beads for 3 inches.
- Next, braid 10.5" with beads (as you learned how to do in the video).
- Now, braid another 3 inches without beads.
- Please watch the video: How to Tie off and Finish Kumihimo Ends.
- Based upon what you learned in the video, tie off your ends with tape and attach a silver plated hammered cord end to each side of your necklace. Let the E6000 glue dry.
- Open an oval jump ring and link it to the ring on the end of one of the hammered cord ends as well as one half of your toggle clasp. Close the jump ring. Repeat this step on the other side of your necklace.
- Enjoy your pretty new necklace!
