This necklace measures just about 15" when finished. You can make it several inches longer by not cutting the aluminum fabric pieces that come with your kit ingredients or you can purchase an additional foot of chain.
- Cut two lengths of 6" long chain with your flush cutters, making sure to remove any broken links.
- Open up a jump ring using your chain nose pliers and attach it to the last link on one end of a length of chain. Close the jump ring.
- Open up another jump ring and attach it to one end of the other length of chain. Also slip on your spring clasp (through the loop on the clasp) onto the jump ring and close up the jump ring. The clasp set on your chain should now be ready. Set your chain aside.
- Now you will work on your aluminum fabric collar. Take one aluminum fabric piece and count 11 rows in (this measures about 1.5 inches). Now using your flush cutters, carefully cut down the connecting area in between the aluminum foil pieces. This will be used as one side of the collar on your necklace.
- Repeat this process again to make the other segment, counting 11 rows in. Make sure to snip off any broken ends. You can watch the video here on how to cut aluminum chain.
- Now open up another 3 jump rings and set aside.
- Take your first length of aluminum fabric, flip it over and lay it flat. With your super fine chain nose pliers, carefully remove the small aluminum square at the very top left corner by pulling back each of the 4 prongs in the back and sliding the piece off. (You don't need this piece anymore.) Do this very carefully as the pieces are very fragile. There should be small circular loop in its place now. Repeat the same process on the right side of the same aluminum fabric piece, and then again on both upper left and right sides of your second piece of aluminum fabric.
- Now take an open jump ring and slide it through the circular loop on the left side of your first piece of fabric. Also slip on the last link from one of your chain lengths. Close the jump ring.
- Take an open jump ring and slip it onto the circular loop on the right side of your first aluminum fabric piece and also into the left side loop of your second piece. Close the jump ring using your pliers. This should connect the center piece of your collar design. Refer to the photos.
- Now take an open jump ring and slide it through the circular loop on the right end side of your second piece of aluminum fabric. Also slip on the last link from the second length of chain. Close the jump ring.
- Now for the beaded drop, take one head pin and slide on one metalized plastic bead, followed by your Nunn Design faceted bead and another metalized bead. Create a simple wire loop with your round nose pliers (link).
- Open up a jump ring and slide it onto the jump ring that is at the center of your necklace already. Onto that second jump ring also add the simple wire loop from your beaded drop. Close the jump ring. Your faceted bead should now be dangling off of the center of your aluminum fabric collar.
- Your necklace is now ready.
