- Begin by finding the dragonfly image in purple and yellow on one of your collage sheets. Cut out. You will probably notice at this point that the image is smaller then your glass dome. We found just some purple/blue toned stationary but you can use anything you have around your house - an advertisement out of a magazine, stationary, etc. Only approx an 1/8" will show along the edges, so just go for the right colors not so much the design. Once you have found what you want to use, trace your glass dome onto it. Cut out. Spread Nunn glue onto the underside of your already cut out dragonfly image and center it onto the paper image you just cut out. Press into place Let dry.
- Take your Nunn Glue and spread some onto the flat side of your glass dome. Flip over, center on top of your image from above, and press into place. Smooth out by pressing on the paper side to remove air bubbles. The glue will appear foggy and white but will dry clear. Let try before progressing onto the next step.
- Find your Vintaj full gerbera stamping. Using your round nose pliers, gently fold the petals upward towards the recessed part of the stamping. Just bend them enough so that they are standing upright. Place a small dab of E6000 in the center of the gerbera stamping (recessed side). Take your dried glass dome from the step above and place into the center of of your gerbera stamping. Now using your fingers, press the petals of the stamping around the edges of the glass dome. Let dry.
- Take your large Vintaj dragonfly and gently curve the top two wings inward slightly, just a little. Then slide your Austrian crystal 23mm wing pendant onto the tail of the dragonfly. With the wing still on, use your round nose pliers to curve the dragonfly's tail underneath him, creating a secure hook for the wing pendant to stay on (see photo). Now place a dab of E6000 glue on the underside tips of the two front wings. Press into place at the bottom of your glass dome pendant. Lay flat and while it is drying, use a toothpick or small piece of wire as an applicator and place small dabs of E6000 randomly on the top of the 4 wings. Place Austrian crystal crystal flatback rhinestones in provence lavender and sunflower into the glue dabs. Let dry fully.
- While the above is drying, take 1 of your Vintaj 2-hole dragongfly connectors and place a small dab of glue on the middle body section of the dragonfly. Set a provence lavender Austrian crystal flatback rhinestone into the glue. Set aside and let dry.
- Once the main pendant is fully dry, open a 4.75mm jump ring and connect it to an underside open-work hole at the top of your gerbera stamping with glass dome. Before closing, link to it a 9.5mm etched brass jump ring. Close the jump ring.
- Using flush cutters, cut your chain so that you have 2 lengths, 8" long each. On each end of each chain, attach a 4mm jump ring. Connect one end of each chain via the attached jump rings to the large etched 9.5mm brass jump ring which is already attached to your pendant. Close those jump rings. On the other side of one of the chains, just close the jump ring. On the other chain, link the jump ring to the loop at the bottom of your Vintaj nouveau swirls toggle ring. Close the jump ring.
- Cut 4 inches of 24 gauge wire. Create a wrapped wire loop at one end and before completing the wrapping, attach it to the 9.5mm etched brass jump ring which is attached to your pendant. Finish the wrapping. Thread onto the wire:
- 1 crystal seed bead in lupin purple
- 1 Austrian crystal 4mm bicone in sunflower
- another lupin purple seed bead
- 1 3mm round melon spacer bead
- a yellow seed bead
- 1 Austrian crystal 6mm round bead in provence lavender
- another yellow seed bead
- another 3mm melon spacer
- lupin purple seed bead
- 1 Austrian crystal 4mm bicone in sunflower
- and another lupin purple seed bead
Create a wrapped wire loop at the end and insert the tale loop of a Vintaj 2-hole dragonfly connector (the one with the Austrian crystal crystal on it). Finish making your wrapped loop and cut off excess with flush cutters. - Cut 12 inches of beading wire. Place a bead stopper on one end, leaving a tail of 3 inches. String onto the beading wire:
- 1 brass crimp bead
- 1 Austrian crystal 3mm round bead in sunflower
- 1 lupin purple seed bead
- 1 4mm fluted round spacer bead
- 1 lupin purple seed bead
- 1 Austrian crystal 4mm bicone in sunflower
- 1 yellow seed bead
- 1 Austrian crystal 6mm rondelle in provence lavender
- 1 yellow seed bead
- 1 Austrian crystal 4mm bicone in sunflower
- 1 lupin purple seed bead
- 1 4mm fluted round spacer bead
- 1 lupin purple seed bead
- and then 1 18mm Austrian crystal wing bead in provence lavender. Repeat the above pattern again all the way until the wing bead. Now string another 4 1/2 inches of your beading wire using a variety of all the beads you have at your disposal for this project. Just make a pleasing design, ours was rather random, we just tried to put a 4mm fluted melon spacer approximately every 3/4" along the stringing to give it balance. End in a brass crimp bead.
- Take the end of your beaded wire strand and thread the wire through the hole at the bottom of Vintaj nouveau swirl toggle which is already attached via a jump ring to the chain. Thread it back around and through the crimp bead you strung last and several of the beads next to it. Pull snug and crimp. Cut off excess beading wire with your flush cutters. Remove the bead stopper from the other end and thread the wire through the loop at the top of your dragonfly connector which is already attached to a beaded strand which is attached to the pendant. Pull the wire back around and through the crimp bead and several beads next to it. Pull snug and crimp. Cut off excess wire with flush cutters. This completes one side of your necklace.
- Cut 14 inches of beading wire. Place a bead stopper on one end, leaving a tail of 3 inches. String onto the beading wire 1 brass crimp bead and 1Austrian crystal 3mm round bead. String 8 inches of seed beads, using ones from your daffodil/lemon/yellow mix as well as lupin purple and brass crimp beads (you will not be crimping these, they are acting as regular beads in this instance). Try to space the crimp beads evenly, but feel free to be random with the others. End with a brass crimp bead. Thread the beading wire through the bottom loop of your remaining Vintaj 2-hole dragonfly connector and the jump ring which is connected to your chain length on this side of the necklace. Pull the wire back around and thread it back through the crimp bead and several beads next to it. Pull snug and crimp the bead. Cut off excess wire with flush cutters. Remove the bead stopper from the other end and thread the wire through the 9.5mm etched jump ring attached to your pendant. Make sure where you pull it through is lined up so that it is on the side of your necklace next to the chain length it is attached to at top. Ideally you want the two chain lengths on the outer perimeter and the beaded lengths in the middle. If this is not the case right now, you can always set aside your beaded length before you crimp it (make sure to reattach the bead stopper) and open that large brass jump ring and rearrange your strands. Once you are happy with it, close the jump ring back up and finish pulling your beading wire length through the jump ring, back around and through the crimp bead and several beads next to it. Crimp. Cut off excess wire with flush cutters.
- For the final touch, we are going to finish making our clasp. You already have the toggle ring on one side and the dragonfly connector on the other side is going to act as the toggle bar. To do this, first carefully cut off the top loop of the dragonfly connector using your flush cutters. Now using your fingers, gently bend the dragonfly at the tail so that he is no longer straight but has a kink to him. Practice getting the dragonfly into the toggle ring and bend as needed.
- You did it! Enjoy!
