- Gilders Paste is a wonderful way of coloring a lot of your jewelry components. For this project, we will just be using our fingers and a paper towel to apply the paste. There are varying opinions as to if you need to seal the Gilders Paste after it has fully dried for 12 hours. We recommend that you do seal it with a clear matte finish acrylic spray sealer. I found that 3 light coats worked best. You can purchase such an item at art stores and some hardware stores.
- Take your silver plated etruscan filigree stamping and scratch the surface with a diamond file or nail file. The way the shiny metal is to begin with, it will not take very well to the Gilders Paste. Roughing up the surface a bit will help the Gilders Paste adhere better. Next, slightly bend the filigree so that there is a gentle arc, mimicking the arc of your wrist. Using just your fingers, rub the patina colored Gilders Paste into the stamping details. Wipe off the top of the filigree with a paper towel, re-exposing some of the silver. Let dry.
- Spray the patina colored filigree with a matte finish sealer. Let dry.
- Cut 2 lengths of velvet ribbon, 1 1/4" each. At the end of each ribbon, place a ribbon pinch crimp over the end, sliding the ribbon edge all the way to the back. Using chain nose pliers or duck bill flat nose pliers, pinch the crimp over the ribbon, securing it in place. Make sure to do this to all 4 ends.
- Open and connect 3, 6mm jump rings together. On one end attach the lobster clasp before closing the jump ring. On the other end, connect the last jump ring to one of the pinch crimp ends attached to the velvet ribbon.
- On the other length of velvet ribbon with pinch crimp ends, attach a length of 11 jump rings which have been linked together.
- Cut a length of 26 gauge silver colored wire, 10 inches in length. Look at your filigree stamping and draw your attention to one of the tips. You will notice two parallel holes nearest the tip. If you move your eyes up slightly, you will notice two more parallel open-work holes just above the aforementioned ones. It is into these holes which we are going to thread our cut 26 gauge wire through. Thread it so that 9 inches is pulled through one hole and 1 inch through the other (going from the top side of the stamping to the back).
- Take one of your velvet lengths and into the hoop at the top of the pinch crimp which does not have any jump rings attached, thread both wire ends through. Pull the 9 inch length in one direction and the 1 inch length in another. Wrap the 1" length around the filigree neck as many times as the length will allow. Next wrap the 9 inch length once around the neck, pulling it so that the next wrap will go over the top of the filigree. Then, thread 5 Toho beads onto the wire (your choice of pattern). Pull the wire over the top of the filigree and around the back, forcing the beads to stay on the top. Pull tightly. When you get all the way around, thread another 5 Tohos. Wrap around again and then thread onto the wire another 7 Tohos. Wrap around again. This time when you get back to the front side, do not add any beads, just tightly wrap around the neck again. Pull the wire to the back and wrap it around the pinch crimp end several times (the space between the pinch crimp end and the filigree). You want to wrap until you feel that the wire and beads are secure. At this point, cut any excess wire off with flush cutters and tuck the wire end into the already wound wire wrapping.
- Repeat the above 2 steps on the other side of your bracelet.
- Enjoy!
