hi everyone welcome back to the Vita holy design studio I'm Kat Silvia I'm joined by Julie beam and today we are welcoming our designer from becky nunn from nunn design becky nunn so welcome so much and thank you for joining us on this livestream so this is sort of a little something different if you've joined us on Tuesdays before we usually do our meeting break but we had Becky and house doing some great videos for us yesterday so we wanted to bring her back to kind of showcase some of the techniques that she has been doing some videos on for you guys ideas are welcome yeah welcome and you were you were taping until late how many videos did you end up doing well Chris kicked me out or he said I only had it so 4:45 so we didn't quite finish but we did pretty good good yeah those are all gonna be on the beadaholique website and youtube in the coming weeks so stay tuned for those and this little sneak peek of what Becky created in them right so we shot a series I think of seven videos total are really focusing on resin and we're gonna walk you through some of the techniques that we did so we can start all the way over here you're ready this technique right here is using Nunn design resin it's a two-part resin it comes in a little kit like this that has the stir sticks it has everything that you'll need and then we also use some of the colorant from the casting craft and with these colorants you can mix any color that you can imagine and we've done these pieces here with just the regular white so there's no mixing but you can make any panettone color that you can think of and we actually do have a PDF that we're willing to share with you to Holly can love for you guys to see where we've mixed many different colors of resins that's I'll show you some of the examples and this is talked about in the video but it shows all kinds of differents panettone colors that you can make and my team head of Thompson mostly did all of these sample showing like the different formulas oh yeah drop I each yeah what you'll need in order to create these different colors it says great and that's so helpful because you look at these colors like I was looking at some of your samples Hamlet oh that's so beautiful how did you get that color right and if you were to try to experiment on your own without the recipe right it would be a lot of that's what they are they're recipes yeah the recipes and formulas of how you can make all of these interesting colors using these the mostly these colors these five colors are primary colors and well that's awesome yeah because if you want to start somewhere you know sort of the five to get right to really get you started and be able to mix all those colors is red in there Red's not up here yeah and here we have this yep so there's also the red the red so to make the Pink's on on this in this video right here I'm discussing how to mix the resin and then I discuss how to colorize the resin and talk about the formulas and then how to use it on flat tags that seems to be something that people really don't get but none design resin is a self domine resin so once you put it on to the flat tag and you drag it out to the surface with like a toothpick or something like that it'll stop right at the edge and it basically wants to know where is my edge and then as you add more resin to it it starts to create a higher and higher dome so these pieces are done using that technique so that's one of the videos that I should I love that you've mixed the silver with the copper because you usually think of copper with gunmetal or silver with gold but I love that you've done the silver and copper that's really they see a lot of samples here that I mix the metals a lot even the gold and the silver I'm just recently started to really like sterling because there's a certain there's certain applications where it looks just really stunning and on there really contemporary pieces that's where it really shines so and I feel like it actually accentuates both you have the light and the dark so the light looks brighter and more brilliant right and the other the copper lives richer right so for the most part just a full disclosure on the white I have had that kind of turn into a little bit more of a beige have you guys had any overtime overtime yeah a little bit yeah but all of the really vibrant colors I haven't had that experience with but it's mostly on this white I'm even when I have the colorant of the white and then I put another clear hit over the top of it I'll still have the white slightly fade in color so that's the only time that I've really had a real significant change but with like any jewelry you want to store it and you know a plastic bag or some sort of way in which it doesn't it's not exposed to the air and then therefore it won't tarnish as much as sunlight effect resin you know that caused it to possibly yellow event it does with time a UV resin which we also work with which is the gel de Soleil that does not yellow with time okay because it takes the Sun to activate it but a two-part epoxy resin such as the Nunn design resin and many of the residents that are out on the market it will slightly change you really can't see it very well unless you like leave it on the on your window seal for him on but like if you find old costume jewelry you know sometimes you find that that's a little bit yellow that's resin and it just it takes that many years yes there were so many many many many years it's just on this white that I have seen and that you know it's not that the resin I think is color is changing in color it's the colorant was changing and cultures say so anyway that's that's pretty much my only disclosure on the white because people love ya they love this look and I just keep on trying to say okay okay it might be beige by the time you put it out there to you know so what's really fun to about the colorants as you let the colorants sit in the cup and it starts to get a little thicker you can actually start to do things like on the chai think there's a triangle one where it's just on the bottom right there so you can put the resin just where you want it and it'll stay oh yeah I notice yeah this sample over here right if I was looking at that right it's how it was like oh that's cool right so is the resin when its first right out of the cop you know everybody's in a hurry to use it but as it starts to lose its pot life it's time in which you can work with it it starts getting really thick it's great for all sorts of things so you know it's just one of those things that when when I'm mixing resin not that I did this yesterday I'm mixing resin I'm really thinking about how am I gonna use cuz you have to mix a whole cup right and it's super easy I mean - I mean that little cup goes a long way I would say pretty much all the samples on the table could be made with just that single cop because we're just putting a very fine tip if you start to fill bezels that's another story yeah the other stills open back yes especially right but these pieces are all where it has the technique in it and it's filled and then this is just a surface layer so that resin goes a very very far away so anyway so in the first video we talked about how to colorize resin and how to use it on the flat tags then the next video let's see they might not come up in this order but the next video we're going to talk about is how do you in bed and in this case we use the precioso seed beads that you guys have on the beadaholique site and how do you embed Preciosa seed beads that are on a string into the crystal clay so I'm using a two-part epoxy clay and this is crystal clay please don't judge it by its packaging it is it's a fantastic product it's a great product it's very versatile it is so versatile and I and I I just love working with this product because again it's it's a it's a two-part resin but it air dries and you have two and a half to two two and a half hours to work with the clay before it starts to harden so for a beginner or for somebody who's just learning this is a great product because it's very forgiving you can take it out of the bezel you can clean it out you can try it again you can try it again so for those who are just like you know they want things to be perfect and they want to look really good this is a great product to work for work with because you can change it and alter it very easily pinch it off put it in a little more you know an alternative so in this particular technique we're using this the string of the precios seed beads you embed it into the clay and then you pull out the string that's how you get that right so it looks like it's super complicated which is what I'm rolling into I like it looks super yeah and this particular technique this does take a little bit of time and I actually make this sample right here in the video and you'll see some of the things that I did wrong and I talked about what I'm doing wrong you know like I did a couple of samples beforehand you know just to show the different stages and my step out but one of the things I didn't do because this is done in an open back bezel so you can see that there's clay right so I put tape on the back and then and then put the clay and I'm then embedded what I didn't do is trim really close the tape away so my seed bead strand was getting stuck on my tape we're gonna do a little editing there but it actually was a little bit of a challenge so that you know even though you know this I suggested working with epoxy clay man or not this technique there are this technique over here we're going to talk about next but I also talked about all of the different types of nunn design findings that you can use for this particular technique you can use it on this curved surface you can use it in the open box you can use it in the bezels you can get a ring I was gonna say I just want to pull out one of these rings here because it is an open back bezel ring right so it's like yeah you're kind of having to do to it once there so I got it I got asked how do you do it here do you put a piece of tape underneath actually yes and in the next video we're gonna go over I actually make a wonderful yeah particular fine because I've always been curious about trying to use these with right a mixed-media right and as you get a little bit more comfortable with it this particular piece this is an open back bezel but I did it on both sides so it's double sided so in this particular case I'm using since it's such a small surface I put the clay into the base of it and the backing was my finger and then I embedded it all on this side wiped it down flipped it over and did the other side so on really small pieces it's really easy just to use your finger yeah to keep it in place and then you know I used you know both fingers when I was embedding the pieces I'd used both pink fingers like this to press down all of the seed beads to make they were make sure that they're really secure in the piece but you can do all kinds of fun things these are I mean go ahead and pull this whole thing if you don't mind Chris I'll just show so here's some examples of how you can use them with with the ring the earring findings just doing a simple embedding here's an example of how you can use them in the little itsy bottle on the top part and then you know I did a bunch of pieces just all kinds of little findings and you can mix and match and then make them into a solid piece like you're seeing right here in this charm bracelet so and I love how in some of them you really do see the color of the crystal clay and then in some other pieces you've kind of covered that up by adding more seed beads so you kind of can judge how much metal you want in there actually yeah what I didn't do in the video is what you're talking about sometimes you in this particular case where this is darker what I did is I actually went over the top of these pieces with another hit of clay oh right and the reason I did that is and sometimes that I do they is because I want to make sure that those beans estate yeah they're right here right and especially on a bracelet or a ring or something that really has a lot of you know goodness it's not so much earrings not so much but anything that's really gonna get a lot of activity what I'm what I did on these is I finished the piece this is what it would have looked like and then I pulled the tape off the back and then I came back over fixed the pics mixed up another batch of the clay and took a very small amount made it incredibly thin like paper thin and got it wet oh and then put it over the top of it and just smeared it around it's kind of like a paste notice I say did it yeah change its consistency yes it's like very very liquidy and you know and then put it over the surface of that pressed it all into the crevasses and then wiped away the excess now just for some people listening when you say that you added water you're talking just a little kind of like your finger got wet right I'm just not it I was just dipping my hand okay cutting it all over okay I know if you've done any kind of pottery like what that's what I was guys yeah it's like I slip right like when you get your your pottery super wet it's exactly it has a kind of sort of consistency so that's the second video that that we did and that one was really fun see I just gotta say I love the way come to videos for us because there's techniques that we would have never dreamt of yeah that's right I said no but it's something right you know you're teaching us I I really like also this really strong Duato in the black have you said and but the the purpose of it is really is for the fact that you're making your piece much more secure right yeah so you know and then you can get really crazy with even any kind of seed beads that you have and I have a couple of them and have different colors inside of there so anything that's on a strand the same technique works great for then after that we shot the another video that we shot that we shot was very similar but on this particular technique we were using ball chain which I love right right so I was using different remnants of ball chain and in this particular video I make this piece right here so I'm showing like how to create a fun ring and create a nice dome and I also make this piece here where I'm talking about how you put the tape on the back the same question that you just had and how you use the ball chain for this you just need to have a pair of flush cutters the epoxy clay that we just talked about the crystal clay this is the same stuff we're using here and then you just embed the pieces right in there and then once you get that technique down there are so many fun things you can do you you know you will feel clumsy at first I just have to tell you that it's something I have to learn you know your cuz you're working with these teeny tiny pieces and you're embedding them you're trying all these different things but then as you start to get more familiar you can start to use them on a curved surface and here's some different examples of how you can even mix them with rhinestone chain you can use ball chain you can do all kinds of different things and these are all the different Nunn design findings that you can use but it's not limited it's just whatever you can imagine this again is an open back bezel you know so it's showing the in the back with the clay but that's the front and here's one of the channel beads and showing how you can put different colors you know mixing the different rhinestone chain together and I'm just going to add for people who aren't familiar with the epoxy clay she's not adding glue it's yeah right into the clay that is so handy that's what epoxy is if you never die before we're saying embed you're literally just pressing it into the clay that's right which is so handy and then it's actually gripping it right so this particular we're a distributor of this crystal clay and I don't know if any of you guys know but Betsy Young Quist she is a fantastic mosaic artist she does the most amazing things Instagram her she is that a verb anyway she does the most fantastic mosaic work and when when I was interested in this technique and learning more about it I sent her a bunch of samples and said hey could you give me your feedback and she really thought this was a great product why I chose it in terms of distributing it is because in this little kit comes the two parts epoxy clay and it comes in a large variety of colors I don't know all the ones that you guys stop we love it primarily I'm working with black brown and white those are the colors because I'm pretty much covering them with with things well we do have a larger package that has all those colors in it so it's like a kind of neutrals mix because they go so well together so one of the things that I loved about these packages when I started to distribute them is it comes with gloves which you know when you're creating especially for the first time I put a lot of time into thinking about people's experiences yeah you know it's like I don't know if you've ever experienced like when you start a new craft and you're like oh I'm so excited then you sit down you're like oh I'm supposed to have gloves I don't have any gloves can I use mittens No so you know it had gloves already in there so when you're using the two parts this part here is what has the resin and this is the colorant so the a and the B so you want to wear your gloves although when I did the video I didn't have my gloves on and then and then it also has this great little applicator to thick this makes it super easy it has beeswax on the ends it makes it super easy to pick up things and put it in and when we were doing when I was doing this video you'll actually see me I use a toothpick because I couldn't find it at the top but it just makes it super easy to pick up the little seed units if you have a like a little gap after you've pulled your string out or something back you can add it on so that's what we did in this video is we use the ball chain and we use the crystal clay and what's nice about this is it's not like when you want to make something you have to mix the whole thing you're just pinching off as much as you want so it's just equal parts that's right then this can still be saved as long as it's right separate so it's not like you have to mix a whole cup of frozen rice a little bit different in that aspect as well right so another thing about this too is that you know you can store this what I do once I've opened these packages I don't store it or in just one of the ziplock anymore you store it in two zip locks keep those parts too apart because you don't want this to dry out the color will dry out with time it just gets hard and if it does get hard you can put it in warm water and it'll make it soft softer but it's not it's not as moist as when you first start out so some of the complaints I get especially on the black is this pigment that's in here to get it back black sometimes comes off on your hands as this is really warm like in the beginning of the day yesterday when I first started to shoot I didn't have any pigment on my hands and I was like by the end of my shoot I was like see this is pigment you know yeah and you just use a wet wipe okay that's just a white potato it comes off yeah it comes off very easily this is not gonna skate stain you all right so then since we're on the subject of epoxy clay we're gonna mix it up a little bit and we did I did another video here and this is using the black epoxy clay one more time and on this one we made this I made this sample here I don't have the actual samples to show you because as I was transporting it from the desk to over there to dry plop facedown on the floor at least the moon did anyway but on this one I'm using the same black epoxy clay and I'm using these gilding flakes and these are so much fun yeah and it comes in a variety of different colors I think you guys are stocking the gold the bronze and the silver right and this supply is gonna last you for a while I mean I would open it up but it will have a it kind of just goes all over but it's um it's metal flakes that are just super super thin so in this example on this tutorial in this video I show you how to mix the clay place in the gilding flakes and then pour mix and then pour clear resin over the top of it and to talk about like how do you do it if you have a post earring you know how you set your workstation for rings to dry things like that so this is the next video that you will be seeing soon yeah I love those flakes it's just it's just so elegant yeah yeah yeah it's very just classic and just beautiful one of the things I love about this technique is as you get more and more complicated with resin it takes two pores or three pores this I love because you can actually pour the resin on your wet uncured crystal clay okay so it has to be dried right oh you don't have to wait 24 hours and then come back and do resume okay and so what I'm teaching this is a great technique because you can do it with UV resin and 20 minutes you know so it doesn't have to clay itself doesn't have to be cured before you put the resin over the top of it and it has this great look so after this we're going to come on down to these samples here and I did a video that was using the Nunn design flat tags and we have a variety of different shapes and sizes and they're these pieces right here I'm showing how you can use transfer sheets with the resin so a transfer sheet and I forgot to pull those out by the translation is there's a couple of different designs that you guys offer and it is a film that is printed and has a paper back and when you drop that you trim it out I make this piece right here this is the actual sample from the video so I'm taking one of the transfer sheets I'm trimming it out a right around the bird and talked about you know hey design wise you have to think about this because if you have a hard line it looks funny you know something showing okay I have a hard line I'm gonna have to curve around his backside here just make him look like he's not just cropped off yeah you know or hang him off of the edge and you look really funny so no you need to you can manipulate the image by cutting it certain ways then you make sure resin lay a small little pool of the resin down on your tag first and then you put your transfer sheet in a little dish of water and it separates the film from the paper back and then you just slide it onto the tag and pour a little bit more resin it's nice you sound so simple but I'm like I would be so nervous to try to put it on try to put it on to the wet resin I mean because are you trying to achieve the dome no so when you first have your first little bit you want to put a little bit a tiny bit of resin docking the base and that is because if you put the transfer sheet directly on to the tag and I talked about this and I show examples it'll give an iridescent look it attracts air underneath there and so you can actually see that there's something funky going on there I mean somebody would have to be right up to you to see it but you know you know it's there so yeah so you put a tiny bit of resin down okay and that kinda acts as a little bit as a shield exactly yeah and it also prevents from air getting trapped underneath the transfer sheet and that's what creates that you're add essence it wasn't smart it was trial and hair oh I don't have the actual sample that I talked about it anyway you will see why how I came up with this because I kept on having this iridescent and I couldn't figure out why why how come I have this and then fine I I actually was messing around and I wanted to put a flat tag and didn't have a bezel or or something that didn't already have some resin in it or on it and did it and I was like oh oh my gosh so I'm just saying it's not that I'm smart I spent time you know figuring it out so that's the next video is talking about and I do make it easy it's a really good point that I'm showing how you're using toothpicks how you're you know pulling this you know transfer sheet away you're gonna you know might not have as I make it look super easy and I've done it a lot and it's something one of those things that you have to give your time to learn a new craft yeah happy with it exactly you know so it is super fun though once you start to figure it out and there's a lot of people who've taken my classes like me I do a Nunn design archery retreat and stuff like that and I've had beginners like not even they don't even know how to open and close a jump ring and come out with the most fabulous pieces so I know it's totally possible but it does take some time you know like like I said in the video you'll see me I kind of like I'm using toothpicks like I'm moving the pieces around and it just takes time to figure that out right and I always tell people with resin to take your time but also follow the steps one listens that you don't guess skip a step okay yeah hands down yeah I don't know what I I'm like one of those people who never read some instructions but I like to watch it at use yeah you know and it's super easy for me to kind of intuitively figure it out and sometimes I just watch them in fast motion got it right now but don't watch these videos in fast motion yeah actually watch and listen to them because I'm talking about things that took me years to figure out all your experience all my experience and you know and talking about okay if you don't trim your tape it's gonna get caught on your sleeve trust me right now it's like it happens all we're gonna have my hat jump up on the table and hideous furry butt into my white resin before anyways we've spent a long time have to say and so I think now I put everything on a business card you know and so I can move the resin around and it's purely because my damn cat hey I got a haircut I don't know I did not I thought she should walk around like that anyway so the next video that I did was this one right here so it's very similar in technique that we learn so one of the things that I really like about the Nunn design product line and a lot of the techniques that I teach is that they all build on each other oh yeah they work together they work together and so you put resin with with epoxy clay you put you can mix all these things up and you can come up with your own combination combination it's kind of I say it looks like Legos or jewelry makers they're the building blocks and so this next one is I'm using a colorized resin that we talked about in the very beginning over here on the bag I'm using him in the open back there so again I put the tape on the back and I talked about the tape and how to remove the gooeyness that sometimes happens with tape and then mixing the colorized resin pouring it in this is one of those two poor arm things so I put the first and you can feel a lot of bezels with your colorants and then you come back the next day and you add the transfer sheet and use clear resin on the top of that okay so in that case you do want to wait in that case you do want to wait the 12 hours just until the resin is firm enough and that you can come in and put your second layer on top got it you're removing your tape when it's in that soft cure stage so that you can easily remove it if you have any over pour it just it removes it just peels off at 12 hours resin is that it's beautiful soft point and there's yeah there's a ton of techniques even with you know soft cure resin you can cut it you can sculpt it you can I mean it's just it's super fun please time your pores like you did eight in the morning so it can be eight o'clock at night when you're trimming or you do it exactly like some techniques it's like okay guys if you don't take this off like I have this one technique where it's on the clay squishers I don't know if you guys are viewers so you take an open hoop you mix your resin and just when it's like I can't even scoop it out you pour it right on to this texturizing pad but you have to take it off there in six hours or you destroyed your and again that's one of those things you learn yeah a try for exactly right I one of my staff members Melissa she's like I know I ever slap and so you know you will destroy your oysters so there's some things that you know if you if you mess around and don't do it right when you need to and it did like a little summer school class and a lot of people he's like I don't know what I did wrong and everybody was like oh that's all about time so in this one I'm showing how to use open back bezel but again that technique works with everything it works with all of the different findings including the flat tags and then and here's some more examples of like using using the colorized resin with the transfer sheets over the top and here's a little shot of the technique that we did over here so again you can start to blend all of the different techniques together then and actually this is the piece that I made we talk about astrology I love that yeah it's just super fun and that again is in an open back bezel showing how to do that there's also some other fun samples here that I wanted to show you in the first video that we talked about this is actually not much of a fat tag it actually has a really strong harness that's a hard sloping edge and I wanted to show you this I didn't do the actual video using a piece like this but this is ideal again for when the when the resin starts to set up and is starting to get really thick okay it's just like it just is great it just goes right to the edge and it'll stop it's a little bit more tricky to do this when your resin is it's just like very soup liquid right yeah fluid and once a person starts working with resin you're gonna kind of understand what we're talking about but yeah I've like one starts get a little bit stiffer and harder right when you first mix it right my big tip to is watch your heat because I know we did it once right oh yeah we put a little green transparent okay and we have this mixing Cup and we let it sit for like 3-4 minutes and it was like a popsicle yeah I could turn it upside down yeah okay so maybe not so in the back of the Nunn design kit is some really great instructions and it also has some links to if you like to read it's perfect well as I said I read instructions but I highly recommend you read these in searches right or watch the videos and you watch them all the way through because you know like you're sad you guys are in a different location now but the other times that I come down here I had that exact same experience which I've never had before because I'm in the Pacific Northwest but I was working it was and it didn't have any air conditioning that room was like 110 degrees in there right so yeah it was like I would get like halfway through the video and I'd be like I got a like slice in another chute because my resin is already hard so yes like those who live in Florida you know like summertime it's not the best time due to resin and I learned from my students that summer times not the best time you know or it you have to have a room that's around the 73 mark 73 degrees is when it's ideal and nice ventilation but yeah it's just it's a learning curve and one of the things that's unfortunate about resin is when it started to become really popular and really piqued everybody was using ephemera they're all wanting to use photographs and they're all wanting to use paper and unfortunately that's probably one of the toughest techno yeah it's really really hard because there's so many variables and so many chemicals that go on in the printing that go on in the papers that go on all of these different things and so everybody was starting out okay all you you have resin I'm sure and you haven't done it because you probably tried it but you know you start probably with that hard hard technique or hard right and yeah and so some of the things that I'm showing you these are really simple in comparison to what you probably started out with because you don't have to treat your papers this next one I'll talk about is a little bit along the paper line though okay it's using organics and again this is one of the most popular techniques that we have going here well and this is something I'm eager to learn because I haven't done this technique right and again there are so many different flowers and every single flower is gonna respond differently to resin yeah and so in this particular listen video I'm talking about I had some pressed organics already but these are all of these organics and this and these pieces are pressed either in a book or in a press so they're completely flat because we're using them on flat tags if you want to get into more dimensional you'll want to use a bezel and I didn't do that that video here I just did this particular video this is a great one to start out with you're just so the trick in this like we were talking about with paper is that you have to treat your organics and you have to be patient because every single flower is people are like well my bluebells work and I'm like I have no idea you know because sometimes different flowers when they get exposed to the resin even though you've dried them and you've sprayed them with the resin spray to kind of coat them and treat them you won't know what they're gonna look like until they hit that resin resin makes paper transparent just completely you know and it will make flowers and different types of flowers transparent but I have a variety of different metals here variety different tags showing the different ways in which you can design with them you know even on some of the darker pieces like this showing how that blue still really stands out but it's really they're really fun to design with the organics themselves and then make compositions you know I've seen some really lovely samples way lovelier than what I'm just using one site flowers are gorgeous I'm sorry I want to make Christmas gifts these are like your gifts yes especially if there is something that's meaningful like maybe a family garden exactly or something like I think that's one of the reasons that this technique is so incredibly popular the same way we the same reason why we had such great luck with photography you know people wanted to put pictures of their baby or the grandchildren or whatever this is kind of along the same lines where you're taking something that's memorable yeah I have a lot of people that take wedding flowers or even funeral flowers or any kind of event and then they press it for their customer and then they make this resin jewelry yeah it's through mementos they are there and they're wearable and they're they're functional they're not gonna go in a drawer and so you know I actually what I want to do is we recently had the good fortune to be able to purchase a house from a very nice from very nice family and that house had been in their family for 65 years and they had a beautiful garden I want to take some of the flowers from the garden and make arrests and jewelry and send it to him a great idea because like this was a meaningful part of their life for 65 years right and that's sweet but I think people can do that they die find something that is special right to their mother to the oysters or even a keychain or something right and I was something that you know that they can just have and enjoy but here's some examples of you know the different types of tags I love these pieces here because now I know that the tag itself is textured and kind of rounded on the on the on the one side but the other side is flat mm-hm so this is ideal because you can put your organic on there and then when you do it you can actually you can see here's another one where it's really high domed so it's it's really I love that whole roundedness on both sides yeah that's yeah here's an example of what not to do when you're organics are - yep too much or it has a little bit of dimension you can start to see then it will protrude out of the resin so this would take a second pour right but ideally you want to just do it all within one pour so that is that technique and I think that's what we have so that's one two three four five six seven yeah so I think for my experience I've learned that resin takes practice mm-hmm it's not particularly hard if you follow the directions and the tips yeah it's very doable for anyone right you just have to follow the steps so it's like following a recipe right if you're baking a cake from scratch you're gonna follow the right you're gonna set the oven to the right temperature you're gonna measure the right amount flour sugar and that's what resin really is right I think again when resin started to become really popular there wasn't a lot of really good free information yeah and you had to figure it out yourself and you know one of the things that you know when I was first working with resin myself I called beadaholique and you know asked customer service like what are some of the top questions that you get from people and you know people are I I put some spices in here and it's not curing you know and so I had there was a lot of information that was like oh you can put this without in there people were having a lot of issues and so you know I don't teach that way I don't say you can put anything in there because it's like saying okay well you know you can put it in chocolate and why didn't it work okay I can't control what what happens and so you know that's one of the things with the organics even you can't control you have to educate and tell people here's what this will look like and here's what this will look like but I don't know what you're picking out of the garden you know and everybody every region and all over the world there's different organics so it's a process you have to experiment and be willing to to experiment what's nice again about this technique is you can put that beforehand you can make up some resin and you can do some samplers and you can see before you actually put it on your tag so absolutely now if you were just starting out with resin if you're new to it totally what technique would you start with what would you begin with um I oh yeah would you just movie resin with resin would you just made me do like this a color like a solid color one yeah maybe wait and then do that get that down or do I put it over you know I would think that the the colorants are probably the easiest especially if you just want to have a solid color and not get into the fancy formulas yeah you can also just purchase one color and you know the like if you did the white or if you did the yellow depending on how much of the colorant you put in and by the way those little bottles are gonna last your life forever that you're really really opaque and they last a long time so you can even do a group by and share but yeah right and so I would just start with one color that you're really attracted to red because then you could you know put in different amounts of that red and and you can make all kinds of different shades of red but yeah that is that is probably like you're saying one of the easiest techniques and especially on a flat tag you just go slow yeah and you just drizzle a tiny amount and then you move it around and and also one word of advice you have to mix that cup the first first or second or third pours that you do you have to let go of your waste you're going to have it you have to allow yourself some time to learn this new craft I'm it's much better to just go slow and do it right and get the finesse that you'll need in manipulating the resin and such than to rush through everything because you're in a panic yeah yeah yeah so if we look at the size of that kit you get so much resin you can overdo what you actually needs right if you do waste a few cups you know you do right a couple pours you're still gonna have plenty you've got you know every single thing on this table times what right 20 could be done on that right it yeah so times at least ten right so there's a lot that you you have the freedom right experiments right yeah all right you guys are gonna have to wait for more from Becky but those videos will be coming out soon so thank you so much for joining us live and thank you Becky for being here and showing us some brand-new techniques and stuff as we are eager to try so it's a good time of year to try something new like Julie said you know people are thinking about makers gifts for the holidays so it's a good time to experiment so thanks again for joining us guys and we'll be back here tomorrow for more from beadaholique you
