You will also need some tape for this project as well as a binder clip or alligator clip of some sort to pinch your ribbons together. Tip: it is easier to attach the foldover crimps before you cut your ribbon and then just trim one side of your ribbon off after you have folded the crimp.
- Cut your 2 silk ribbons and your faux leather cord to 20 inch lengths each. On one end of each, attach a 3mm brass foldover crimp. Connect all three of these crimp ends together with an oval jump ring. Tape down the connected ends to your table and braid (just regular 3 strand braid). Keep braiding until you have 8 inches braided. Pinch the ends together with your fingers and carefully slip your Clay River pendant over the braid. At this point, secure the ends together so that your braid does not come undone - I prefer to use an alligator clip but a binder clip would work as well (you can also consider gently taping). Carefully attach a foldover crimp to each of the strands, trim any excess, and then connect the crimps together with an oval jump ring.
- Cut 15 inches of Soft Flex antique brass beading wire. Place a bead stopper 4 inches from one end. String onto your wire 1 brass crimp bead, 1 Clay River short tube cylinder bead in ruby, 1 Clay River rectangular chicklet bead in celtic green, another ruby bead, 1 Clay River coin bead in marbled blue, another ruby bead, 1 Clay River coin bead in celtic green, another ruby bead, another marbled blue coin bead, another ruby bead, another celtic green coin bead, a ruby bead, a marbled blue bead, a ruby bead, a celtic green chicklet bead, a ruby bead, and a final crimp bead.
- On the underside of the leaf part of the toggle clasp there is a little loop. Thread your beading wire through this loop, come back around and through the crimp bead again as well as several beads next to it. Crimp the bead and snip off excess wire with flush cutters. Remove the bead stopper from the other end of your strand and repeat this step with your 2nd toggle clasp leaf portion.
- Place a glob of E6000 glue on the underside of one of your leaf toggles from the step above. Into this glue, place one end of your braided piece. Just place the foldover crimps and jump ring holding them together directly into the glue. You want the leaf to be pointing down, as if it is going on top of the braid. See photo and then let dry. After it is dry, repeat this step with your other toggle leaf on the other side of your braid.
- Lay out all three of your foot long pieces of chain and make sure they are the same length. You might need to snip off a link or two to make sure they line up.
- Open an oval jump ring and attach it to the end link on all three of your chains. Also link onto the jump ring one of your toggle bars. Close the jump ring.
- Repeat the previous step on the other side of your chains with your other toggle bar.
- To bring your necklace together, simply insert the toggle bars into the leaf parts of the toggle clasps.
