Retired - A Day to Remember Necklace

PROJECT N1055
Designer: Megan Milliken
Skill Level: Intermediate
This pretty sterling silver necklace is simple and sentimental. It has three rows of hand stamped numbers, signifying an important date such as a wedding date or birth date. Make it to remember that special day, or as a thoughtful gift.
Instructions

Note: Components and tools listed within this INSTRUCTIONS box and the printer-friendly PDF, if available, may have been discontinued since this project was published. Refer to the PURCHASE COMPONENTS and TOOLS AND OTHER SUPPLIES sections for current availability.

If you are new to stamping metal, I recommend that you practice on a less expensive base metal stamping before moving on to the sterling silver blank used in this project.
  1. Before you begin, watch the video: How to Make a Name Stamped Mother's Necklace. Follow the instructions in the beginning of the video through the stamping and filling in of the letters. Once the video moves on to dapping, you do not need to finish watching for the purposes of this project.
  2. Using the Stamp Straight Tape, plan out where you will want your top two numbers to sit on your sterling silver curved rectangular stamping blank. Make sure you leave room for three rows.
  3. Select the appropriate numbers for your custom date and stamp the first two onto the tape line.
  4. Move the tape down and stamp the second set of numbers onto the blank.
  5. Move the tape down and stamp the third set of numbers onto the blank.
  6. Use a permanent marker to color in the numbers, wiping away the excess immediately. This will make the numbers more visible.
  7. Cut an 18" length of sterling silver chain. Attach a sterling silver lobster clasp to one end of the chain and a sterling silver jump ring to the other end of the chain.
  8. Use a second jump ring to hang your pendant blank from the chain.
