Find Color Inspiration in Fabrics

Choosing a color palette can be one of the more challenging aspects of jewelry design—it can also be one of the most fun! We all get stumped from time-to-time though, and that is when it helps to know a little design trick. Find a color palette in a dress, shirt, blanket, or piece of fabric that you love and pull out all the colors in beads. Designers of these pieces have already done the leg-work picking out colors that look good together, and since you like it, you know that you will like the colors done up in beadwork. If you are unsure how to do this, here is a video to help explain.

You have discovered the secret I have used for years! I have received compliments for the “unique” color combinations I have chosen whether I am making jewelry, decorating my home, or framing artwork. I have always relied on someone else’s expert eye. Also check out the paint sample chips in HI stores that are shown in combination, or a piece of artwork that speaks to you.
