April's Birthstone: Diamond

Last month we spotlighted March's birthstone of Aquamarine. This month we look at April's birthstone—Diamond! Whenever I think of diamonds I think of Marilyn Monroe singing "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" in the movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. The glitz, the glamour, the pizazz! Diamonds always seem to hold a special place of honor and prestige in our hearts. I proudly wear my grandmother's diamond wedding ring. It's almost like the diamond holds the memories of generations of my family.

Diamonds are said to represent love, courage, and success, among other things. Some facts are that the diamonds are older than the dinosaurs, the youngest diamond is still almost a billion years old, they are the hardest substance on earth, and they are extremely rare.  By incorporating diamonds and other gemstones into your designs, or beads that invoke the feel or look like diamonds and other gemstones, you can add an extra layer and dimension to your designs.

Most of us do not have the resources to incorporate real diamonds into our jewelry designs. Diamonds are widely known to be very expensive. One way to get the feel of diamonds is to use crystal instead. PRESTIGE crystal beads and pendants are an excellent choice for creating the look of diamonds. PRESTIGE crystal fancy stones and chatons also have the look of diamonds. These Austrian crystal components have magnificent clarity and precision cut facets. Of course they come in many colors but the classic "crystal" clear is the one to choose if you want to create the look of diamonds. This is a great cost-effective way to incorporate "diamonds" into your designs.

Here are three designs to jump start your creativity using April's birthstone of "diamonds" (or in this case, beautiful PRESTIGE crystal beads):

We have created a chart of Gemstone Meanings & Metaphysical Properties. You can learn not only about diamonds but all the other birthstones and gemstones.
