NOTE: Make sure to pick up all your magatama beads from the same side to get the even scale-look to this project. You want them to all face the same direction when you braid your bracelet.
- To begin this project, please watch the tutorial: How to Braid Beaded Kumihimo and Make a Bracelet. For this particular project, we are going to be using 8 strands of Super-Lon cord in white instead of multiple colors, and instead of seed beads, we are going to use Miyuki Long Magatamas in white pearl ceylon and noir lined aqua. But the positioning of the cords, the positioning of the beads, and the techniques will be the same for this bracelet as the one shown in the video.
- Cut 8 Super-Lon white cords so that they are 30" long each. Tie all the strands' ends into a simple knot, thread the knot through the hole in the middle of your Kumihimo disk, and attach a weight to the knot.
- Line up all your cords and beads the same way as shown in the video.
- Braid 7" of beaded kumihimo.
- When done with the braiding, add your barrel end caps the same way as attaching the clasp is show in the video.
- Now we are going to add the Czech crystal 4mm bicones in light siam and Miyuki Delica 11/0 beads in crystal AB.
- To add the above beads, thread a size 12 needle with 3 feet of Wildfire white beading thread. Tie the end of your thread to your braided Super-Lon cord, right up near one of your barrel end caps. Try to make the knot discreet. We are going to sew the bicones into the braid at random intervals along your beaded kumihimo bracelet. When adding a bicone, string the bicone onto the thread, slide the bicone down to rest amongst the magatamas, then string an 11/0 delica and slide that down too. Pass the thread back through the bicone (through the same hole you exited). Pull snug against your braid and then pass the needle right through the center of the braid and exit at the next point you want a bicone. Keep doing this until you have used all 50 of your bicones and have reached the other end of your bracelet.
- When you have added all your bicones, tie off your thread near the barrel end cap on this end of your bracelet. Make sure it is secure.
- Open one of the jump rings that comes with your Kumihimo findings set and link it to one half of your clasp. Also link it to one of the loops on your barrel end cap. Close the jump ring. Repeat this step on the other end of your bracelet.
- All done!
