Instructions

Note: Components and tools listed within this INSTRUCTIONS box and the printer-friendly PDF, if available, may have been discontinued since this project was published. Refer to the PURCHASE COMPONENTS and TOOLS AND OTHER SUPPLIES sections for current availability.

These instructions will make a 6 inch bracelet. For a longer or shorter bracelet, adjust the number of herringbone rows you weave.
  1. To begin, please watch our video on how to weave a flat herringbone stitch. Cut a length of Fireline thread as long as you are comfortable working with and thread a size 12 needle. During your weaving, you'll need to add additional thread; watch our video on how to tie off and add new thread for instructions.
  2. Weave a ladder stitch base row 12 beads long, using the following pattern: 4 black and silver beads, 4 black and gold beads, 4 black and copper beads.
  3. Following the technique shown in the herringbone video, weave 7 rows of flat herringbone stitch, following the same color pattern as in the ladder stitch base row. You should now have 8 rows woven in total.
  4. Next, weave 4 herringbone rows using only the black and silver seed beads.
  5. Weave another 8 rows of herringbone stitch using the reverse color pattern from steps 2-3: 4 black and copper beads, 4 black and gold beads, 4 black and silver beads.
  6. Next, weave 4 herringbone rows using only the black and silver seed beads.
  7. Repeat the pattern in steps 3-6 once more. Then repeat steps 3-5 again. Your bracelet should measure just under 6 inches.
  8. Separate the two halves of your tube clasp. With your needle exiting the last black and silver bead in the top row, pick up 1 black and silver bead and sew down through the next bead over, so 1 bead is sitting above the first herringbone column.
  9. Sew up through the next bead in the top row. Pass your needle through the first loop of the tube clasp and sew down through the next bead over, attaching the first loop above the second herringbone column. Sew back up through the original bead and the loop of the clasp again to reinforce the attachment.
  10. Repeat step 9 twice more, attaching the second and third loops of the clasp above the third and fourth herringbone columns. The fourth loop of the clasp will align between herringbone columns, so create a loop using the 8th and 9th beads in the top row. The last loop of the clasp will sit above the fifth herringbone column.
  11. With your needle exiting the second-to-last bead in the top row, pick up 1 black and copper bead and sew down into the last bead, so 1 bead is sitting above the last herringbone column. Weave in your thread tail.
  12. Move to the other end of the bracelet. Repeat steps 8-11 to finish the other side, making sure to attach the second half of the tube clasp so it aligns with the first half, with the wide cap at the opposite end.
  13. Enjoy your bracelet!
