You will need to gather several additional supplies before beginning this project. First, find an inexpensive paint brush, we are going to be painting a layer of glue with it. Next, you will need to find a pretty decorative paper to accent the bird image from the collage sheet. We used a piece of red and white origami paper but you can use scrap-booking paper, heavy wrapping paper, or even just a red colored paper.
- Cut out your oval bird image from the collage sheet. Using your finger, spread an even, thin layer of glue onto the backside of the image. Glue onto the decorative paper you found, you want to glue it onto the front side of the paper, so that it is layered "image on image". Press down firmly to release any air bubbles and smooth out. We are doing this because the image is just slightly smaller then the glass cabochon. Let dry fully.
- Find your oval glass cabochon and paint a layer of Nunn Glue directly onto the flat back side of it. Make sure that it is an even layer, no big "blobs", and that you have painted all the way to the edge. Flip over and center on top of the bird image/paper you worked on in the previous step. Press firmly into place. Without moving the cabochon around, you can pick up the paper and cabochon and press from the backside of the image to spread out the glue and release any air bubbles. The glue will look white and foggy below the glass, this is what is expected. Let the piece fully dry for an hour and the glue will then become clear. Make sure to wash out your paintbrush at this point and set aside.
- Rough cut around your glass cabochon, leaving approximately 1/2 inch extra on all sides.
- Using your fingers, spread a layer of Nunn Glue onto the backside of the paper you have glued to the cabochon. Spread the glue all the way to the edge (this is why we just made a rough cut in the previous step). Flip over and press on top of the wrong side of some of the decorative paper you have. Press firmly to remove any bubbles or ripples. Let dry fully.
- Once your glass cabochon/image is fully dry, use your scissors to cut around the edge of the cabochon. Try to cut as close to the edge as possible, you want to only see the image under the glass and not see any paper along the edge.
- Take your paint brush and paint a layer of Nunn Sealant onto the paper on the backside of the paper/glass cabochon. Let dry fully.
- Find your silver plated mounting with bail and place an eraser head size amount of E6000 onto the flat glue-on surface of the mounting. Press into place on the backside of your glass cabochon/image. Make sure that you are placing it at the top of the oval and that the image is oriented properly in relation to where you are placing the bail. Let dry.
- The final step is to take your green silk ribbon and thread it through the bail. Bring the two ends together and tie a bow.
