For this project, you will need a paint brush, a piece of wire to use as a glue applicator, and a clean surface to paint on. Before you begin, watch the video on
How to Use a Jewel Setter because it is a helpful tool.
- Begin by taking the front side of your filigree stamping and with your paint brush, dab some black patina on the center. Set your stamping aside to dry and wash your brush immediately after you're finished.
- With your clean brush, dab white patina onto the front side of your scarab pendant until it is fully coated. Set your pendant aside to dry and wash your paint brush.
- Once your scarab is dry, dip a piece of wire in glue, flip your scarab over and cover the back rim with glue. Then place it onto the center portion of your stamping, on top of the area you painted with black patina.
- Before you begin adding your rhinestones, remember that you can place your rhinestones in any design or pattern you like. Place some glue onto your scarab or stamping where you want a rhinestone (a little goes a long ways) and then use your jewel setter tool to lift up the flatbacks and place onto your stamping. Use the pointy end of the jewel setter to make adjustments. Refer back to the video for additional assistance.
- For my project, I began by covering the scarab pendant in rhinestones in Greige. I then outlined the stamping with rhinestones in Metallic Light Rose followed by another scattered outline with rhinestones in Jet Nut. Lastly, I made two clusters of rhinestones in Crystal on either side of the stamping, for some additional shine. Please refer to the photo to emulate my exact design.
- Once you are done, set aside to dry. Use your tweezers to remove any left over dry glue from your stamping.
- Once your stamping is completely dry, flip it over and place a small dab of glue onto the center. Take your pinback (front side down) and place it on top of the glue. Set aside for a few minutes to dry.
- Your brooch is now ready.
