Designing for Halloween

It may still be August, but “Halloween” is already everywhere! We see it in the shops, online, in commercials, and more. And if you are designing costumes and jewelry for Halloween, you know it takes time to create and it’s never too early to start. Perhaps you are wanting to design for Halloween this year and do not know where to begin? Halloween is such a vast and expansive holiday these days that it can be overwhelming. Below is some direction as to where to begin – and of course there are infinite other directions to take too. The main thing is to go with what inspires you and have fun!!

Here are two Halloween color palettes to jump start your creativity.

If you are unsure what to design, you can check out our Halloween projects from past years (there are over 140 of them!). These projects range from cute to spooky, and feature all sorts of techniques like bead weaving, loom, wire wrapping, stringing, and more. Some projects are quick and easy and some are more advanced – there is really something for every taste and skill level.

For quick and easy designs, Halloween charms can be hung from a variety of hook styles and usually don’t even require a jump ring to be added. These instant designs have been fan favorites for years and with good reason – they scream “Halloween” and can usually be made for under $10. Here are 3 great Halloween charms to consider this holiday season:

Jewelry Charm, Enamel Halloween Candy Corn 19mm, Silver Plated with Colored Enamel, Goldenrod (1 Piece)

Jewelry Charm, Halloween Black Cat, 21mm, Left & Right Pair, Silver Plated with Enamel

TierraCast Antiqued Silver Lead-Free Charm - Flying Bat Halloween 23mm (2 Pieces)

Finally, if you have a costume in mind such as a vampire or witch, look through all the supplies and see what will work with your attire. Filigree is always a good choice, PRESTIGE Crystal beads in jet, skull beads, skull chain, and more are all excellent choices for some spooky (or elegant) themed Halloween designs.  Again, most of all, make sure to have fun and feel free to be very DRAMATIC – it’s the time of year when adults get to be kids again!
