Julie,
This was very helpful and I am glad you are doing this series. What you covered I had learned over time.
Can you cover how you keep track of your supplies and cost. I currently do a spread sheet, listing purchase name of item, cost and then break it down to per bead etc. Currently I am just overwhelmed with tracking, creating and making labels for item. I have not even gone into packaging. Currently I have only sold directly to a small group of people so no tax has been included. I want a hobby but also make some money to offset what I have spent.
Also, how do you track your product image with description and cost? Can you cover this.
Thank you.

Thank you so much for all the great information. I have found it’s very easy to quickly get overwhelmed with all that goes along with starting a business of selling your handmade item! I am looking forward to you next video!

What a wonderful idea! Very useful information. Am excited for the next ones, I especially struggle with photographing, so will be watching for that one. Do you have dates for all the other videos?
Thanks for doing these!

I aim to sell my earrings at 2x my cost as well, taking in mind all my costs (including packaging and shipping), which I pay for. I do not charge for labor at this point, so my items are all fairly inexpensive considering. Because of this, I still consider my jewelry sales as more of a hobby than a business. My problem areas are photographing and listing the item. I have far more items made than I have placed on eBay where I list and sell all my jewelry. I chose eBay because they don’t charge a listing fee, unless you’ve created an eBay store. So, you don’t pay anything unless the item sells. I figure this is best for a hobby. I have done all the math for each item I sell as well as for some I’m intending to sell but haven’t got them listed, yet. This video was very helpful, and I like all of Julie’s recommendations, especially if you want to sell your jewelry as a business.

Thank you for starting this wonderful series. Could you please add an episode on packaging? What is best for what materials, what type of jewelry, how to go brand etc? Thank you so much!

At craft shows/fairs (retail) …
I have sold jewelry items for approx. 2X my cost.. sometimes more. That way, a discount can be offered – seasonally, certain type of item, B1/G1 for 50% off, etc. – and still make a profit.
