Instructions

Note: Components and tools listed within this INSTRUCTIONS box and the printer-friendly PDF, if available, may have been discontinued since this project was published. Refer to the PURCHASE COMPONENTS and TOOLS AND OTHER SUPPLIES sections for current availability.

  1. Begin by watching the video on How To Use Crystal Clay.
  2. Next, watch the video on How to Apply Gilders Paste without a Paint Brush.
  3. Then watch the video on How to Use A Magical Pick.
  4. Following what you learned in the Crystal Clay video, make a small round gum ball sized piece of Gold Crystal Clay.
  5. Press your clay down with your forefinger and thumb, flattening your Crystal Clay into a "cookie" shape. I made mine about 3/4" in diameter but you can make yours to your liking. Refer to photo for reference. Use your fingertips to smooth out any marks on your clay. (You want the surface to be as smooth as possible for when you add the Austrian crystal flatbacks and Gilder's Paste in the next steps.)
  6. While your Crystal Clay piece is still flexible, gently press down your bail onto the upper center portion, making sure that the loop peeks up from the Crystal Clay and is not covered. See photo.
  7. Next, flip over your Crystal Clay piece and following what you learned in the Gilder's Paste video, carefully add a thin layer of bronze Gilder's Paste with your finger, adding it only in some areas. You can also use a small paint brush if you'd like. The Gilder's Paste adds a nice texture to your design and will give your cookie a slight crispy look. You can add as much or as little as you'd like. Refer to the photo for reference.
  8. Now you will follow what you learned in the Magical Pick video and carefully add on your Jet Austrian crystal chatons in a scattered pattern, so they mimic "chocolate chips" on your cookie design. You can add as many or as few as you like. I also added a few onto the backside of the cookie, around the bail.
  9. Set your cookie design aside to cure overnight.
  10. Once dry, use your pliers to open up a jump ring and slide it onto the loop that's on your bail. Also slide on your chain and close.
  11. You're done!
