Retired - The Pasadena Necklace

PROJECT N683
Designer: Julie Bean
Skill Level: Beginner
This necklace reminds me of something that a lovely lady shopping in Old Town Pasadena would wear. It is fashionable and current yet timeless in its multi-strand design. The nugget shaped citrine beads add an unexpected twist to this pretty accessory.
Instructions

Note: Components and tools listed within this INSTRUCTIONS box and the printer-friendly PDF, if available, may have been discontinued since this project was published. Refer to the PURCHASE COMPONENTS and TOOLS AND OTHER SUPPLIES sections for current availability.

  1. Begin this necklace by cutting a 24" length of gold colored beading wire. Place a bead stopper 4 inches from the end. String onto your wire 1 gold colored crimp bead, the entire strand length of your jade serpentine 10mm round beads, and another crimp bead.
  2. Thread your wire through the middle loop on your deco rose strand reducer, loop it around and back down through the crimp bead and several beads next to it. Pull snug and crimp your crimp bead. Snip off excess wire with flush cutters. Remove the bead stopper on the other end of your beading wire and repeat this step, attaching that side to your other strand reducer.
  3. Cut an 18" length of beading wire and place a bead stopper on one end. String onto your wire 1 gold colored crimp bead, 16 citrine gemstone large faceted nugget beads, and another crimp bead. The gemstone beads will all vary in their size and shape. Try to mix the small ones with the large ones when you string them.
  4. Thread your wire through the small loop on your nouveau drop bail, loop it around and back down through your crimp bead. You most likely will not be able to pass your wire through any of your citrine beads again, this is ok. Crimp your crimp bead and cut of excess wire with flush cutters. Repeat this step on the other side of your strand with another nouveau drop bail.
  5. Your chain consists of numerous open links that you can open just like jump rings. Count 7 chain links from the end of your chain, open the 7th one and separate it from the rest of the chain. Link this chain link/jump ring through your drop bail on one side of the necklace strand you completed in the previous step. Close the chain link/jump ring. Open the end link on the other side of your 7 chain link segment and attach it to one of the side loops on your strand reducer which has the jade stones attached. Go to the other side of your necklace an repeat this same step.
  6. Lay your necklace out on a flat surface. You want the citrine nugget beads to be the strand closest to your neck, followed by the jade serpentine stones in the middle. Curve the necklace so it is mimicking how it would rest on your neck. Now position your remaining chain against the jade serpentine beads, starting with the end chain link resting up near the last open loop on the side of one of the strand reducers. Curve the chain around until you get to the strand reducer on the other side of your necklace. Make a note of which chain link you need to connect to the strand reducer, open this link, and attach it to the strand reducer. Close the link back up. Now go to the other side of your necklace and open the end chain link on that side and connect it to the strand reducer.
  7. Open and disconnect one chain link from the remaining chain you have left. Use this link as a jump ring to connect your lobster clasp to one side of your necklace via the loop at the top of your strand reducer.
  8. Open the end chain link on whatever chain you have left. Use this like a jump ring and connect it to the top loop on the strand reducer on the other side of your necklace.
  9. All done! Enjoy your pretty new necklace.
