Hi. I'm Andrea, senior designer here at Beadaholique.com. Today I'm going to show you how to properly open and close a jump ring. It's very important to open and close a jump ring the proper way and I'm going to show you why in just a second. First of all I'm going to show you how to open it properly. These are chain nose pliers and these are bent chain nose pliers. To open and close a jump ring, you can either use two pairs of chain nose pliers or one of each. It's totally up to you. What you're going to do is you're going to grasp a jump ring. You're going to hold one half of the jump ring with one pair of pliers. And if you can notice, the opening of the jump ring is facing upward and grasp the other half of the jump ring with the other pair of pliers. Now all you do is simply twist the two halves away from each other. At this point you can add whatever charm or link or finding to this jump ring that you need to. And then to close grasp both halves agian and simply twist back into place. Now the reason that you don't want to just grab both halves of the jump rings and pull apart from each other is that it's going to look like this. This jump ring was just simply wrenched apart and obviously it does not keep it's nice round shape and it's pretty much unusable. So remember don't just grab the sides and rip them apart. But rather grasp two halves and twist away from each other. That's it. That's how you open and close a jump ring. Go to Beadaholique.com for all of your beading supply needs!
