These darling brick stitched charms are full of holiday cheer, and so much fun to make! Follow the patterns provided to create your own collection of winter themed charms. These designs would also make great Christmas tree ornaments using larger sized Miyuki Delica seed beads.

Instructions

Note: Components and tools listed within this INSTRUCTIONS box and the printer-friendly PDF, if available, may have been discontinued since this project was published. Refer to the PURCHASE COMPONENTS and TOOLS AND OTHER SUPPLIES sections for current availability.

These charms are interchangeable with the chain necklace. This necklace measures 17.5 inches. To adjust the size, choose your desired length of finished chain. Please note: These are advanced brick stitch patterns that require knowledge of increases and decreases. For tips, please see our video: Tips for Advanced Brick Stitch Patterns.

Based on the technique shown in the video, cut a length of thread as long as you are comfortable working with and begin your first charm by weaving a ladder stitch base row. We recommend starting at the widest point in the pattern. Be sure to leave yourself a thread tail of at least 10 inches.
As you stitch your charms, you will need to make brick stitch increases and decreases according to the pattern. You may also find it useful to make increases using ladder stitch.
To attach jump rings to each of your charms: Use pliers to open a 4mm jump ring and gently slide on the appropriate seed beads at the top of each charm. Close the jump ring. Repeat for all patterns.
To attach chain to your holly charm: Use flush cutters to cut the centermost link of your finished cable chain. Open a jump ring and slide on a seed bead on one side of your leaf (see photo for reference). Also slide on the end link on one side of your chain. Repeat this step to attach the chain to the other side of your leaf design. Enjoy!
